Dinner by Firelight Under a Starry Sky

With longer nights and shorter days, everyday activities enjoyed in the moonlight add a new aspect of fun and adventure. A simple dinner cooked in your backyard, heated by burning logs in the brass fire pit becomes an outdoor, starlight feast. Of course, the menu is really not so fancy since in this instance, simple and easy adds to the experience. However that does not mean what you cook up is tasteless and boring and it seems that whatever you eat outdoors just always tastes better.

So get ready to go on an outdoor cooking adventure filled with flaming fire and taste a juicy, grilled-to-perfection hot dog smothered in mustard. Then for dessert, its those plumply expanding marshmallows toasted to the just-perfect warm, melting point of not too charred, but not too cold. And then, if you choose, that marshmallow can be placed beside a piece of milk (or dark) chocolate and then squished tightly between two crispy graham crackers; thus producing the ever-popular smores!

If that were not enough fun, dont forget that the food is prepared and eaten while you enjoy the ambiance of a dancing fire full of personality for your entertainment. Everyone surely agrees that there is just nothing like sitting by a crackling fire under a starry, moonlit sky enjoying a delicious savory or sweet treat!

These are the perfect marshmallows for toasting over an open fire. They do not melt away but turn into a soft mound of gooey, deliciousness! They have a consistency more like wobbly jello. It sounds kind of weird but it makes for less mess but the same great taste and gooey texture.

One Guest Always Present for Our Backyard Events

Ronald McDonald attends every time since he is part of our backyard decor. During the years when we owned our McDonald's Restaurants, we replaced the playland equipment more than once. We got our pick of out-of-date toys and accessories which became permanent conversation pieces at our home.

Here is Ronald McDonald being friendly as always and offering his welcoming, familiar wave to say "Hello!"

No. Too many mossies around my place to sit for long outside but in the long summer evenings I often turn on the colored lights outside and sit in the glow of the moon while enjoying the nice cool breeze after the extremely hot days here in Aussie land. We are reaching the top thirties for the next 5 days and the Australian Open is being played in temps of 40* and above. While you folks up north are freezing we in the south are truly on the boil, Nice lens and good pics.

Best way to eat dinner under sky filled with shining stars is to invite best friends and prepare some simple yummy meal...then eat and talk...

Not so much cooking, but enjoying the company of friends -- and good food and drinks brought out from indoors. Love the ambiance and the smell of wood smoke.

We have a nice barbecue at home, but cook over a fire when camping, or best of all, in fire pits at the beaches here in Southern California.

Nice Lense! I love cooking outdoors, over real fire. Most cultures have some kind of customary outside style of cooking.

We once lived in a camp, as a family and cooked a lot of meals on a firepit.

Great lens, saw it featured at IMMINENT! The Nightfall Highlight Reel.

Nothing more relaxing that sitting around a fire (roasting marshmallows of course) under the night skies!
