Delicious and Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe

This is really an Easy Apple Dumplings Recipe and it is so delicious. A great treat for fall weather when the fresh apples are available. When our Friends of the Park organization had our Annual Fall Maintenance Day at Barrett's Place Playground, one of the volunteers arrived with a dish of hot Apple Dumplings. They were sure a wonderful treat on a chilly morning and were a big hit with all the volunteers especially my husband. He mentioned them several times after that morning so I finally emailed my friend for the recipe. She gladly shared the recipe with me and now with her permission, I am sharing it with you.

Thank you, Joan Kelly! I had never heard of cooking with Mountain Dew but it sure is good! Who knew?

So, if the Apples are available, think about trying this delicious recipe! It is especially good on a chilly fall or winter day. I think it would be good with peaches or really any fruit for anytime of the year. Use whatever fruit is in season or you might try frozen or canned.

Easy Apple Dumplings

Joan sure made a hit at our work day. It was a chilly fall morning and these looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. Try it with fresh peaches in the summertime. Just use 2 fresh peaches instead of the apples. Yummy. I haven't tried it but I am wondering if you could do the same thing with canned fruit or canned pie filling. I may have to experiment with that.

Changing the Recipe as I go

As you can tell from the picture, I used more than 8 crescent rolls and I also added more than one slice of apple per roll. I think the next time I make them, I will reduce the amount of sugar because they are very sweet.

I actually do not even core my apples. I just peel and slice thinner slices and then layer them. I am pretty good at figuring out the easiest, fastest way to get things done. It might not always work but it was fine with this recipe.

Mountain Dew - Is it good for you?

This is the first recipe that I have ever used Mountain Dew and it sure made these Apple Dumplings taste great!

I like that my friend Joan told us how to make it healthier with less calories, don't you?

I know that Mountain Dew is very sweet so we probably don't need as much sugar.

Yummy, I love these with a big cup of hot coffee!

Cooking Your Apple Dumplings

Test the apples at the end of 30 minutes to see how done they are. You may need more or less cooking time than the 35 to 40 suggested minutes. These smell so wonderful when cooking so put on the coffee and enjoy! Can you "almost" smell them? This picture makes my mouth water.

We love the fall and fresh apples from the mountains so keep them on hand. From now on I will keep a Mountain Dew on hand, too, so I can make these whenever the mood strikes.

Thank you for visiting - I hope you enjoyed this recipe!

I made some and it is the best. It is better than any apple pie that I have ever had. I halved the recipe and baked it in a smaller dish for about 10 minutes less. It turned out great!

@debnet: Deb, I googled it and found others asking the same question and someone answered that a puff pastry would do well. Here is the link to the question/answer on ChowHound. chowhound.chow.com

They sound good and look even better. I have to admit I don't like my food too sweet either though. Mountain Dew is very sweet on it's own, but I have heard of people cooking with it before. I would love to try these. Very enjoyable lens, I came, I enjoyed my visit, and I left a blessing behind.

Had to pop back and say I tried them. Well the diabetic version using splenda. Diet Mt Dew and I cut out all the butter. (Heart disease and diabetes go hand in hand) They were still just about the best thing I've had in a long while. They weren't as golden as yours (I imagine no butter would that) but were still really good. I added a little sugar free cool whip and it was heaven. :)
