Mom - Where Do Christmas Cookies Come From?

A Little Christmas Cookie History

Christmas Cookies date all the way back to medieval times as well as to various regions and countries.

Some believe that the Gingerbread cookie, or the German Lubkuchen, was the first known traditional Christmas Cookie.

Sugar type cookies come to us originally from England.

The original Animal Crackers were the first edible Christmas Tree Ornament's.

The earliest American Christmas Cookies came to us compliments of the Dutch in the early 1600's. Hartelijk dank!

Well, mine are not exactly kids but the cookies are still a part of the holidays for us. I had a friend that used to deliver cookies to her friends at holiday time, it was great. I hope you and yours are well and life is good to you. See you around the galaxy...

My children always enjoyed messing around in the kitchen with me. I hadn't really thought about it before, but I think you are right. We really did just kinda mess around and do what we wanted. No stress, just like you suggested. I really do think that might be the real key to cooking fun with children. Sometimes my grown daughter will even join me now and we drink tea, laugh and cut up while we work.

We always made cookies with the kids - and not just for Christmas. We also made Halloween cookies, Easter cookies and birthday party cookies. Making memories with our children and grandkids is the most important holiday activity we enjoy.
