Easy Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings and Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Updated on November 17, 2014

Chicken and Dumplings with Biscuits

If you're looking to make homemade chicken and dumplings, then I have a great recipe for you. It's easy to make and tastes great. Around my house, it's a family favorite.

This is a hearty soup/stew and is particularly great for the cold winter months, although I admit, since my kids love it so much, I make it year round.

I just throw everything into the crock pot in the morning, add what I need to shortly before mealtime and I have a hit on my hands. The only problem is that I rarely have any leftovers.

Chicken and Dumplings Tip

When making this recipe, be sure to use fresh produce.

This recipe is based on a 6 quart crock pot. The chicken should be completely thawed before being used in the crock pot. Don't worry if you don't know how to cook the rice. I have instructions for you later on.

Cook Time

Prep Time: 1/2 an hour

Total Time: 6-8 hours

Serves: At least 6

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 stalks of diced celery
  • 1/2 diced medium onion
  • 4 cans of Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 4 cans of water
  • 1 can of Swanson Chicken Broth-100% fat free-33% less sodium
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
  • Mrs. Dash Original blend
  • 3 cups of cooked rice
  • 1 10 oz. package of refrigerated biscuit dough

Hamilton Beach 33262 Stay or Go 6-Quart Slow Cooker

What I love about this crock pot is that it has a locking lid. This really helps to prevent spills if you are taking your crock pot somewhere. In addition, it has a warm feature so you can keep your food warm, without overcooking it.

How to Make Dumplings for Chicken and Dumplings

Making the dumplings is easy. If you have kids, let them help out with this part. The dumplings happen to be my kids favorite part of the meal.

Instructions

  1. 1. Open the package of refrigerated biscuits.
  2. Roll into small balls.
  3. Once you've finished rolling all of them, place in the crock pot.

Cooking Rice on the Stove

Here's a video in case you need help with cooking the rice. When I make the above recipe, I use two cups of water and allow the rice to simmer for twenty minutes.

Crock Pot Tip!

Your crock pot will be much easier to clean if you let it soak in soapy water first.Crock pot image is from WPClipart.

I just threw chicken, uncooked rice, and cream of mushroom soup into the crock pot. Three large breasts, about 1 cup rice & 2 cans soup along with 1 1/2 cups water. What kind of consistency is this going to yield me? Also, if I wanted to add dumplings, when should I do that? Would I need to add more soup/liquid? Thank you in advance.. I am clearly a new crockpot cooker!

@anonymous: As every recipe is different and being I haven't tried your version, I wouldn't know about the consistency. I roll my dumplings small, so usually about 1/2 hour on high. Good luck with your recipe!

@TheBLU26: I don't have any raisin bread tips, but for beef stew, I either like to use a package of beef stew seasoning mix or a packet of Lipton onion soup. Both add great flavoring.
