How To Make An Egg Salad Sandwich

Updated on January 29, 2015

The Best Recipe for an Egg Salad Sandwich

I LOVE egg salad when it's made right and I think my recipe is something special. I grew up on egg salad and I am the only one in my family that enjoys an egg salad sandwich. So when I make this, I want it to be really good and i consider it a super treat..

99% of the time I cook what the family will enjoy together, but when it's just for me, I want something delicious, tasty and comforting. That's my egg salad with just the right seasonings and tidbits on the side.

Ingredients for Egg Salad - Keep these ingredients on hand for egg salad anytime!

  • 7-8 raw eggs
  • 3/4 cup regular or light mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup celery
  • 1 tbls prepared mustard
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Start with Fresh Eggs

Place eggs in a medium saucepan. Cover with cold water. Bring to a slow boil and continue to boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover with lid and let sit for about 30 minutes. Drain water and replace with cold water. Let cool about 10 minutes. Peel eggs and set aside.

A foolproof way to hard boil eggs - and makes perfect poached eggs too!

No more guessing! Put the eggs in and this cooker will let you know when they are done. Easy to use, easy to clean and easy to store, and makes perfect eggs every time. It doesn't get much better than that!

Prepare Celery

Chop celery to measure a 1/2 cup.

Dice Eggs

Prepare eggs according to your taste. Finely diced to coarsely chopped.

It's always nice to have a good cutting board on hand for making egg salad

Combine all ingredients until mixed well, then chill.

Now you are ready to combine in a large bowl, eggs, mayonnaise, celery, mustard, celery seed, salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.

Time to enjoy your egg salad sandwich!

Layer a generous helping of egg salad onto your favorite bread or rolls. Add lettuce and tomato, if desired. Serve with french fries, onion rings or potato chips. And my favorite accompaniment is a dill pickle spear!

Right On! Someone else who puts celery in their egg salad. I also add garlic chives from my garden, or in the winter, I use finely diced white onion.

My wife makes a batch of egg salad 2 or 3 times a month. I like to toast the bread sometimes for a little variety, otherwise between two pieces of soft potato bread works for me.

I haven't had egg salad for ages so I'm going to have to make it soon. I'm also thinking that my daughter might like it. i'm trying to get her to eat a more varied diet and this might be one way that she would eat eggs.

I LOVE egg salad sandwiches! Whenever I've tried to make it at home myself, it's never as good though - I think its because I never have celery on hand to include.
