My Easiest First Smoothie Will Get You Hooked

Updated on April 5, 2013

Why Fiddle Around With Smoothies Anyway!

The reason I committed to even research fast and powerful blenders is a short one, if I lump all the causative factors into one - health!

Since I left the country life I've been as busy as the rest of us, melding family, work, domestic upkeep, and play. I wasn't certain just how I should wrap all those areas in a covering of health-maintenance.

A short six-years later I got the first of a succession of wake-up calls that I couldn't ignore. If you are female, and you are breathing, your chances of growing a breast cancer are at the highest point ever.

The treatment cut out my income-producing capacity back at a time when the internet was yet to become an income-generator. I continued my artwork and took all the medicine the university medical system could funnel into my body.

I sought the care of a student naturopath at the university district clinic, but if she had directed or strongly suggested that I purchase a BlendTec or Vitamix super blender, it would have been as far-fetched for me to come up with the jingle to do so, as my singing in an opera would be.

Years passed and I bought a Blendtec, with the express purpose of reinvigorating the state of my health. At this point, I take similar delight in seeing the photographs of my first smoothies, of the fresh ingredients I used to make them, as it did on the very days I took the photos.

I took all the photographs

This lens teaches you how to make my first smoothie. Enjoy!

The Blendtec Blender I Bought

Blendtec Total Blender, FourSide Jar, Red
Blendtec Total Blender, FourSide Jar, Red

This blender is everything the salesman said it is. It is super fast, has a large pitcher that's very easy to pour from, due to it's square shape.

I like the easy touch panel, and the easy open lid that lets me add to the drinks I am making, if I want to include a bit of maple syrup or some ginger that I forgot about.

My Super Ingredients

this smoothie had me hooked

1. Bananas

2. Carrots

3. Pineapple.

4. Spinach

5. Kiwi

6. Celery

7. Strawberries with truvia

8. Red Bell Pepper

I was so excited about taking this step into eating a preponderance of my vegetables raw, that I can feel that excitement now that I'm well into the program.

I started by peeling and cutting the pineapple that was perfuming my kitchen with its beauty and scent. Most of what was left after I snacked on the tidbits, went into the refrigerator, and it was gone in 2 days. Since the items were all organic they didn't need peeling, but I prefer to peel kiwi anyway.

The steps in washing the carrots, spinach, kiwi, celery, and strawberries had me ripe with anticipation. I sprinkled some truvia on the berries and resisted the temptation to indulge. The spinach comes ready-washed, but I usually rewash it anyway, in good food-safe vegetable wash from our local co-op.

My chiropractor had encouraged me to eat bell peppers regularly, for their vitamin C content, so it was easy to add a slice from my bag of red pepper sticks to the blender pitcher, after first putting in most of the fruits.

Topping the spinach with strawberries was like placing the bow on a gift package, anticipatory delight.

I added water to the pineapple juice that shows in the photograph, to measure 2 Cups, and the smoothie turned out just right.

Family Sized Blendtec Blender Jar

Blendtec WildSide+ Jar
Blendtec WildSide+ Jar

When I'm not making smoothies for one, this is the blender jar to use. Three quarts feed a group for family Sunday brunches, and as your contribution to a potluck. Everyone loves these fresh smoothies, especially as a complement to the stand cooked casseroles and meat dishes.

Professional Vitamix Blender

Vitamix 500 Professional Series, Brushed Stainless Finish

The Vitamix Blender is super for its ability to accept whole vegetables. I like the video demonstrations that show individual huge greens leaves being pulled down into the smoothie as it's making.

This recipe book is full of nutrient information, and idea for food combinations that really work together to satisfy the palate.

Super Smoothie Wash Up

Since I top loaded this First Smoothie with so much fruit in proportion to the veggies, it turned out super sweet.

The sweetness carried through to the clean up, which, in this home is done by hand. A certain satisfaction prevails when the selection, cutting and peeling, whirring, drinking, and washing is completed.

Fresh and strong, I begin the day.

These glasses are nicely weighted at the bottom, and the flare makes it easy to grip the large top.

I like to see every last drop of my smoothies and you will too. This is a delightful gift set, to go along with a new super blender.

Best Seller Smoothie Guide

The Smoothies Bible
The Smoothies Bible

Choose from your whims or follow the guidelines for what smoothie to drink when. I like the fact that the author is a culinary herbalist - that guarantees that she knows so much more than I do, and I have better things to do than to do the research on my own.

What is Your Opinion?

Smoothies are the only way to go. Get your vitamins with a healthy dose of fresh enzymes - hey, there aren't any other kind of enzymes, are there? No, enzymes are killed by heating, so that's why smoothies are the way to go.

Do you think smoothies are healthier than juices?

Yes, because smoothies contain all the fiber in their ingredients, as well as all the fresh enzymes.

The actual fruits themselves are always healthier than just the juices. (and they taste better too ;)

No, I think juices are the hootie-tootie of drinks.

      Add Filtered Water to Smoothies

Just as you select only organic fruits and vegetables for your smoothies, it's wise to add only filtered water.

My filtration unit is a sleek white sculptural shape that connects to my faucet via a smooth white tube. Water is always ready. My Water Filter

My filter uses a porous ceramic cartridge to catch impurities. It's easy to keep it clean and this link tells and shows how to do it. Keep the pristine water flowing. Doulton Cartridge.

My girlfriend has alergies such as gluten, soya, wheat, lactose. It pretty much rules her out if eating most things we all enjoy but getting a blender a couple of years ago opened up more food variation to choose from and get proper vitamins etc. Such a great tool for cooking. Love smoothies, Love the lens.
