Five Best Griddles
Cooking diner quality food at home need not be a chore any longer. Gone are the days of using traditional frying pans and skillets, because small kitchen griddles are now readily available. They are flat (or ridged) metal cooking devices that sit on a hot plate or burner and allow you to cook the same way a pro kitchen would do.
There are two basic types of griddle, the non-electric, which sits on a stove top and the electric griddle, which is a separate device. Electric griddles are portable since you don’t need a stove top to heat it with.
Chefs prefer to cook using griddles because they create very even heating while cooking. They are perfect for cooking anything from pancakes to eggs and meats on the ridged versions. Most griddles are coated with a nonstick cooking surface but for those using cast iron - as long as it is well seasoned, you should be fine.
Here is the list of top five best kitchen griddles.
Lodge Logic Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle
I tried this grill griddle with the insistence of my sister. She told me I’d like it since I love burgers and grilling. True enough, I was impressed when I cooked burgers using it. The grill marks on the burgers looked cool. The burgers didn’t stick on the grill (amazingly so) but I had a bit of problem cleaning up after.
You just need a brush and work some elbow grease on it. I have to advise you though, it is a bit heavy. I personally have no problems with it since I go to the gym a lot, but - be warned.
It also looks pretty well made to me. I think I’m going to be grilling with it for a very long time. It’s perfect for those who are after the “grilled” look. This is really like getting one of those professional griddles.
Presto 07046 Tilt 'n Drain Big Griddle Cool-Touch Electric Griddle
I love my presto electric griddle! It was given to be as a gift by a friend. I couldn’t imagine how I’ve survivedall those years without this gadget. The main reason I love this is because of its size. I can cook a whole batch of pancakes with it
It saves me time and clean up is such a breeze. There are only 2 problems I can find is that it heats up a bit slow. It takes me around 15 minutes, but hey?? It’s big, of course it takes time. The second one is that the handles heat up pretty quick. I got burned the on the first month. I just made it a habit to use apot holder while using it and I have not been burned since.
Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 10-1/2-Inch Round Griddle
I absolutely love this griddle. I was amazed when I tried cooking pancakes in it and they all turned perfect. I use to be a frustrated cook when it came to pancakes because I can never seem to cook them right
So the next day I started to test my new Lodge griddle again, this time, with eggs. Sure, pancakes were difficult for me, but making sunny side up eggs is worse. The pan surprised me again. I was able to cook perfect sunny side ups! It’s so easy to slide the eggs on to my plate since it has a nonstick surface and the sides of the pan were a bit low.
I never thought cooking could be this much fun. It works well with eggs and pancakes since it has a flat surface. If you want a professional type griddle, you should really get this one.
Presto 07039 Professional 22-Inch Jumbo Electric Griddle
I like this griddle and its design. It has a slightly raised side so grease won’t spill on the side. The design is simple and functional. It has a wide cooking area to handle a lot of pancakes and eggs. It heats up pretty quick too. It’s also quite affordable.
Now for the downside. I just think there’s a design flaw here. The look is great but upon closer inspection, I realized that the bottom of it is a bit thin (around 2mm or so). I would have loved it if it were thicker. It gives me a feeling that it’s flimsy. I also have a problem with its uneven heat distribution. Again, it may have been due to its thin base. I find it bothersome to keep on checking regularly if anything is burning because they don’t cook at the same rate.
Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
This Cuisinart Griddle, for me, has the best design. It has a stainless steel griddle and looks pretty cool. What I really like here is the reversible plates. You can flip the flat plates over and use the other side which has a grill finish. The plates are easy to clean because you can flip them over. The size of the cooking surface is alright I guess. Like the size of a small bond paper. It fits around 2 pancakes(flat side) or 4 burgers (grill side). Oh! And it has grease catcher that’s like a pull up drawer too. I tried using it while it’s folded out. It’s as if I’m using one big grill.
The bad thing here is that it takes forever to heat up! Like probably 10 mins? By then, you’re already too annoyed and hungry to cook. Don’t cook fats on high temperature with this product. Grease from the fat tend to sizzle and spatter all over the place.
