Top 5 Most Alcoholic Drinks

Updated on November 25, 2012

Strongest 5 Mixed Drinks

The request was for the strongest five alcoholic drinks. While trying to make a list of the top five strong mixed drinks, it's important to remember that the strength of any drink depends on the bartender. A watered down whiskey and coke isn't going to be very strong while a "whiskey and coke" that looks, smells, and tastes like whiskey with a tiny splash of coke is going to be super strong. That said, there are drinks that generally are stronger than others. Since another hub of mine on low calorie alcoholic drinks has done very well for me, I figured it was about time to answer this request and learn what I can from bartending guides, personal experience, and the power of a large band of traveling drinking buddies. So this hub is set to answer the question on what are the five strongest alcoholic drinks that real bartenders should know.

Shot Glasses for Your Drinks

You don't need to go to bartending school to become a bartender. Be able to mix the best mixed drinks without any help? Well to do that, you need shot glasses. To measure out the right amounts of liquor for those low calorie mixed drinks, you will need shot glasses. If you plan on having a home bar, these are must. There are many types of custom shot glasses, state shot glasses, college shot glasses...basically any kind of shot glasses you could possibly want. Custom shot glasses with bartending training to make the best mixed drinks around...what more could you ask for? A good collection of shot glasses can really set your home bar to stand out and give it that personal touch of personality that makes is distinctly you.

So go find yourself some great shot glasses, and enjoy!

5 Strongest Drinks & Mixed Drink Recipes

#5: The Long Island Ice Tea. This one is a classic. I can remember the first time a friend introduced me to this. After three I was laughing because they were so smooth then I stood up. Then something happened (obvious censoring) and everyone laughed at me for months after. Good times. The Long Island Ice Tea was long the king (queen?) of all strong alcoholic mixed drinks, and still deserves a place on the list.

Recipe: 1 shot of vodka, 1 shot of rum, 1 shot of tequila, 1 shot of gin, 1 shot of triple sec,

1 lemon, coke.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice add the spirits into the cocktail shaker. Squeeze a fresh lemon into the shaker as well. Put the lid on and shake, add to a tall glass then add lots of ice before slowly pouring the coke on top of the ice. Note: many bartenders will make a weaker version with only half a shot of each.

#4: Irish Car Bomb. Many versions of this have a ½ shot of whiskey mixed with a ½ shot of Irish Cream instead of a shot of each. The Irish Car Bomb on this list has a shot of each.

Recipe: 1 shot of whiskey, 1 shot of Bailey's, 1 bottle Guinness.

Pour a bottle of Guinness into a glass, and pour in a shot of whiskey on top. Fill a shot glass full of Bailey's and drop it into the glass of Guinness and whiskey. When it starts to foam, chug it quickly. It will taste like chocolate milk, but if you wait too long it will curdle, that's why you need to chug. Because of this, a few of these can knock even the most experienced drinker on his back.

#3: Zombie. This is a modern classic. In a way, it's also the "I'm an experienced drinker," drink, because it's one of the least known of the majorly strong alcoholic drinks. A lot of tropical mixed drinks are sissy or girly, but the zombie is anything but.

Recipe: 1 shot of dark rum, 1 shot of white rum, 1 shot of spiced rum, ½ shot of brandy (apricot is a good choice), 1 dash sugar syrup, ½ shot lime juice, ½ shot pineapple juice.

Fill half a high ball glass with ice. Pour all the ingredients into the glass and stir well. Garnish with pineapple, lime slices, or mint leaves as you see fit.

#2: Adios Mother F*&%er! This drink is just as badass as the name indicates. Some recipes have lemonade instead of 7Up, but if you want maximum kick, you want the carbonation from the 7Up.

Recipe: ½ shot vodka, ½ shot rum, ½ shot tequila, ½ shot gin, ½ shot Blue Curacao, 2 shots sour mix, 2 shots 7UP.

Pour all the ingredients except for 7UP into a chilled glass already filled with ice cubes. Top it with 7UP and stir gently. A few of these will do the name of this drink proud.

The Bastard on the Beach

Number one is so good that it deserves its own space...especially since it's actually four or five drinks rolled into one story.

#1: The Bastard Trilogy, aka "Bastard on the Beach." Okay, this might be a little bit of a cheat since this is technically four drinks, but if you order one you have to go through the entire story: Suffering Bastard, Dying Bastard, Dead Bastard, Mai Tai (in heaven). Some people even say there's a fifth drink, that being a Gin Fizz to warm up, but that's new on me so that one stays optional. Going through the Bastards is hard enough.

Step 1: Suffering Bastard (2 options): Option A: 1 shot fresh lime juice, 4 shots chilled ginger ale, dash of angostura bitters, 1 shot rum (some have bourbon to start), 1 shot gin. Mix and shake ingredients, pour into a double old fashioned glass filled with ice, and garnish with mint sprig, an orange wheel, and a maraschino cherry & enjoy!

Option B: 3/4 oz Orange Curacao, 1.5 shots rum, 1 shot over proof rum, 1 shot fresh lime juice, 2 shots orange juice, ½ shot Orgeat Syrup.

Step 2: Dying Bastard Recipe: 1 shot brandy, 1 shot gin, 1 shot rum, ½ shot lime juice, 1 dash bitters, 1 shot Ginger Ale. Place all these ingredients in a high ball glass with ice and enjoy.

Step 3: Dead Bastard Recipe: 1 shot brandy, 1 shot bourbon, 1 shot gin, 1 shot rum, ½ shot lime juice, 1 dash bitters, 1 shot Ginger Ale. Mix in a tall glass over ice, stir, and enjoy it. At this point you should be really feeling it.

Step 4: Mai Tai Recipe: Assuming you aren't passed out or worshipping the porcelain goddess, the last part of the Bastard group is the Mai Tai. ½ shot triple sec, ½ shot dark rum, ½ shot Crème de Almond, 1 shot light rum, pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix. Serve in a Collins glass.

That's the "Bastard on the Beach" combination, and that's why this is overwhelmingly the number one spot. That's a lot of sugar, a lot of alcohol, a lot of carbonation. And they're pretty smooth for strong mixed drinks, so a lot of people tend to drink them way too fast. If you're looking for even more information after all of this, check out Jon TEP's hubpage on the strongest alcoholic drinks.  If you're more of a liquor specific type of person (and who isn't - we all have our favorites, after all) then you might be interested in this hub on vodka drinks.

      I made up a drink (I think I did)...

      It's called a Diesel Fuel.

      1 shot Jaegermeister

      1 shot Southern Comfort 100

      1 shot Bacardi 151

It's obviously a 3 shot drink, try and layer the shots, light the 151, enjoy...if you can!

I'm not much into cocktails (beer's my usual choice, & dark, like porter's & stout's), so this was right up my alley. Called 'Widowmaker', I believe, & it's a shot of raspberry vodka poured into a Guiness. Sooo tasty, & sooo bad!!

went to a bar last night. i don't usually drink, but some of my male co-workers were there so i figured i might as well try a new drink. i just asked the bartender what he had that was sweet and he recommended a "red death". i should have just asked for a shot but got the full drink instead. BIG MISTAKE that drink kicked my ass, but oh well at least I found something I like the taste of. though next time I'll just take it in shots.

Hi there, I really enjoyed your hub. One of the best I have seen. I am bookmarking this page for my party next week. I haven't tried the Zombie and the Adios MF but the Long Island Ice Tea is a blast. Have you guys heard about herbal martini? You should try it, it's a new cocktail drink that won't give you a bang in the head but keeps your whole body healthy and helps remove the toxins from your blood. Visit this site for more info.

1 part sour (lime juice preferable)

2 parts sweet (simple or a flavored syrup)

3 parts strong (Jamaican Overproof rum)

4 parts weak (fruit juices, mango, pineapple, orange)

Tastes like fruit punch but the powerful Overproof gives it a punch of its own

On the East coast we have a drink call "Red Death" which is basically a kamakazi and alabama slammer mixed together, it tastes like fruit punch but definitely kicks your ass after one or two (depending on the person). the basic recipe is:

      1/2 oz vodka

1/2 oz Southern Comfort® peach liqueur

      1/2 oz amaretto almond liqueur

      1/2 oz triple sec

      1/2 oz sloe gin

      1/2 oz lime juice

      orange juice

or just tel the bartender to mix an alabama slammer and kamakazi. Enjoy!

My favorite STRONG drink is a 252... not to be confused with a B52... which is horrible...

A 252 is one shot of Bacardi 151 and one shot of Wild Turkey 101 thrown in a mixer on ice, shaken well, and then poured into a shooter... start your bar tab with a few of these, and I guarantee you will have a cheaper bar tab and unrememberable night of crazy stuff happen to you. haha I love em

      Hey Jerry,

Thanks for the recipes, we don't do cocktails in the UK. Well not real ones anyway. Probably against a rule somewhere. But I'm gonna risk it and try a couple on the weekend.. If you ever come across the recipe for a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, I would really appreciate it.

Hey in your long Island recipe you list a shot of gin twice. shouldn;t one of those be a shot of tequila instead? If your looking for a strong ( but maybe not so tasty) drink try a Seven Seas. Its is the first seven liquors a bartender sees. ha ha

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments. Yeah, I've had some fun with the Adios MF. Probably too much, but hey, if you can't have fun in Alaska, where are you supposed to have it? Never heard of the Iron Monkey or Akvavit. I'll definitely have to give those two a try. Thanks for sharing, I always like trying a new mixed drink!

There were a couple of drinks that used to do the trick. My bud's favorite was an iron monkey: equal parts everclear and 151 with two parts orange juice. Kind of like a brass monkey with kick.

My personal favorite was akvavit, which is kinda like anise. It's only about 80 proof, but it tastes so light that you don't realize that you drank the bottle until you try to stand up and your legs won't work.
