What is Nutella, Breakfast, Lunch, dessert, or all of the above?
My daughter is making her lunch for summer school and is making a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich. She is arguing that it is fine for breakfast but I told her it was dessert and reminded her she is making her LUNCH not breakfast. Teenagers! She went on a 10 minute rant about nutella and the nutritional facts about how...zzzzz I tuned her out and made this questions instead. We'll see what you think.
Actually, it's none of the above. But the supermarket's own brand is all of the above, and it's in a bigger jar, and it's much, much cheaper, and tastes exactly the same! Love chocolate spread.
Seriously though, my middle son (and I) love it for breakfast on toast, or on sandwiches for lunch. We don't really have it for tea (dinner, supper, whatever you choose to call your evening meal!). I don't let him have it all that much, as it is chocolate after all! I prefer them to have something more balanced, with some salad hopefully.
I don't think of Nutella as a dessert at all - how would you eat it as a dessert? On sweet waffles I suppose. Or to top a cake? I don't know. It's for putting on bread in our house
Nutella is made from nuts; mainly hazelnuts, so consider it the same as peanut butter. Whatever you do with peanut butter, you can do with Nutella
Just like Peanut Butter I would say it's fine on toast for breakfast or a sandwich for lunch. I don't know about the heath benefits, though I think your daughter is fine to make a nutella sandwich for lunch... I've never thought of it as a dessert!
All of the above, although on toast/sandwiches mostly breakfast. For those of us who remember choc dips it's wonderful to dip bread sticks into.
She had it the day before yesterday on some frozen yogurt and it was pretty good. But she insisted it was fine for lunch. Peanut butter and hazenut butter sandwich.
nutella is a sandwich spread.
heat it up in the microwave and top it on (grilled) fruit and or ice cream and it becomes dessert.
Make sure she's using whole grain bread, and tell her to add sliced banana to it, and then tell her it's a perfectly acceptable lunch! Toast with peanut butter, nutella, and banana is one of my FAVORITE treats. Yeah, I guess I think of it as a treat, meaning I wouldn't eat it every day, but I would eat it for breakfast, or lunch, or dinner, or a snack, or a dessert (but definitely not all of the above in one day).
It is just a product of fantastic marketing - it is an 'anytime' food
I have the same problem as you. My daughter always opts for the nutella on toast at breakfast, and I always try and encourage her to eat fruit or cereal. I am a chocolate lover, but couldn't face it in the mornings. I have given up on trying to convert her, but I think it is more of a dessert in my opinion.
According to the label, the main ingredients are sugar and vegetable oils ,mostly palm oil, followed by hazelnut, cocoa solids and skimmed milk, which together are at most 29% of the ingredients. Half of the calories are from fat and about 40% of the calories come from sugar . It is only 13% hazelnut.
All the above...It's great stuff I have used it for so many thing. I will say it does make a great frosting for brownies.
I mostly see it used as a condiment. I've seen it used on pancakes/crepes, toast, etc. for breakfast ... In sandwiches (ie. with peanut butter) or on rice cakes for lunch ... as a dip for popcorn, etc. Like any good condiment, a little goes a long way :-)

Why is jam called jelly in the USA? A peanut butter and jelly sandwich just sounds weird!

Nutella: Like it or Hate it?

So I fell asleep the other night while eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich...Stop me if you've heard this one, but when I awoke, the sandwich was gone! I've come up with a few possible scenarios:1) I ate it in my sleep.2) I merely dreamed I was eating a sandwich...3) A ghost ate it.4) My 3...
