What do you normally eat for Sunday night dinner?

I remember my Mom making my brother and I French toast or toasted sandwiches for supper on Sunday nights. She said it was the one night she got to relax and not worry about cooking! To this day, I've taken on the same type of mindset. We'll normally have an omlette, oven baked chips or "breakfast" - scrambled eggs, fried tomatoes and bacon. What do you eat?

One of my favorite Sunday dinner meals is baked chicken with macaroni and cheese with some sort of green vegetable. Growing up, our Sunday dinner meals usually  varied from chicken to homemade vegetable soup with cornbread. We also had pot roast with carrots, potatoes, and celery with a side of mustard and turnip greens. Just thinking of these meals bring back such wonderful memories of my mom's cooking.

We don't have the same thing on following Sundays.  Today, we are having roast lamb, last week we had roast beef, the week before we had roast chicken, don't know whay we're having next week.  we generally have roast spuds with cauliflower, brocolli, brussel sprouts, and carrots with our Sunday roasts.

Growing up, Sunday supper was always fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and biscuits with plenty of gravy on the side. And sweet tea. Can't forget the sweet tea. Sunday was also usually the only day of the week that we had dessert.

Now I don't have any particular tradition. Maybe I should work on that?

Sunday night is my "Easy" night. I save the meat and vegetables from the week that are left-over in small containers in the freezer. On Sunday morning, I pull it all out and put it in the crockpot on low with some appropriate broth to make soup. I figure which kind of meat is the largest amount in the freezer, beef, chicken or pork and use that type of broth with that meat. The other meat, I will put back in the freezer for the next week. It all gets used and the soup is always good and simple. With some rolls, it is a good filling meal and we don't waste.

Sunday is our big meal of the week. I have the afternoon off, so I enjoy puttering around in the kitchen. I've published some of my recipes on HP: oven-baked BBQ ribs, Sweet & Smoky Mexican Mole with homemade corn tortillas (made with maize & lime), spicy chili or Italian spaghetti made with garden fresh tomatoes. I'm going to publish a hub sometime this month with a great recipe for Thai-style noodles. I try to make something different every week.

Everybody has a leftover night - I think we have it twice a week! Yikes! But Sundays we make pancakes fill the table with all the leftovers and have the best night of the week.  O and the combinations! We can write a family book about that! The pancakes is like Swedish pancakes - very thin and you literally fill them with anything.
    1 1/2 cups of flour
    1 1/2 cups of milk
    1 1/2 cups of water
    salt
    1 tablespoon of oil
    3 eggs
Mix together and your ready.  It really needs to be thin - the pan just covered with batter.  We traditionally eat it with cinnamon and sugar or ICECREAM - njom njom!

There really is not a certain meal, rather than what we do.
It is all about the BBQ.  Great way to end a Sunday and have family around, they are always nosey about what is on the grill, which keeps them hanging around.
BBQ is one of those things that brings everyone together.

MMM....Warm soup and bread.  That's one of my favorite dinners.  Sounds poor, but it's good.

Unless we have friends over on Sunday, which is my day for cooking. It is whatever left overs are in the fridge. They all get thrown into the pot and may have to add more to it.  I throw in what ever if more is required. So it may come out as a stew or soup.

We don't have a set type of meal on any days of the week. Just whatever strikes our fancy at that moment. As a kid, I kinda wished for like a Taco Tuesday or a pizza Friday at home. Now I think that I would be extremely bored eating the same things each week. If I'm feeling lazy and want to relax, I'll just bake a pizza or some Salisbury steaks. Nothing on a regular schedule, though.

Usually something simple and light. I don't really have any set meals. I remember growing up and it was a Sunday lunch ritual to have a roast, usually chicken or lamb with lots of roast veg and home made gravy. Now its whatever I can find, or feel like. We often eat out with friends for Sunday lunch so by the time dinner comes around I am usually not all that hungry and settle for an egg on toast, sometimes just some tin spaghetti or baked beans.

On Sunday night, we eat outside. Usually fried rice, roti prata or white rice with side dishes. Sunday is my off day so no cooking. Sometimes we would drop by at our in laws house for dinner. My mother in law is happy to cook for us. We missed her dishes too. Yummy, at least far better than mine.
