   Has anyone ever eaten green bananas?
   
   I am aware that some cultures eat them.  If you have a recipe, please share it.  And no, I am not talking about plantains.

   I slice them, fry them in oil, and then use them to make an omlette. They sort of taste like hash browns. (Potatoes will not grow in this region due to the heat.)
   They are also grated and used like wheat flour. My friend in town told me that her mom used to serve them this way when they had no access to regular flour. I have not tried them in place of flour.
   I just looked at your profile page and realize you really want to know about this. Just another comment about green bananas--you cannot peel them like a ripe banana. In order to cook them I have to use a knife. They need to be fried for about five minutes, otherwise they are hard and not edible.

      Good suggestions drmark.  I will have to try some of these ideas.  I experiment with tropical foods. Drying them could lead to some interesting possibilities.

   Dear Randy M,
   You can make many type of dishes with green bananas.
   1. Remove the outer green cover of the banana and dry it in sun light. This to be powdered by using Mixy/grinder. This powder is good health food for young children.
   2. You can use the  removed outer green cover of the banana to prepare tasty dish(curry). a) You can fry it with using little cooking oil and put salt and chilly powder as you want. It is too tasty. b) Take one banana, cut it into four pieces length wise and then cut it into half inch pieces. Cook it in warm water. Put salt and green chilly/or chilly powder for taste and put some cooking oil. It is very very tasty dish. Instead of oil you can put coconut pieces(small).
   Like, many variety of dishes you can make with banana.

      shivanchirakkal- I like the idea of boiling and then frying the banana pieces in oil with chili powder.  Chili powder is one of my favorite spices.  Thanks!

   Yep....I like them ripe though...I have eaten them in Florida with bananas foster 26 yr ago...my MOM knows how to make this but I have never made them....lol

      I didn't know Bananas Foster used green bananas, but I have never had this dessert.

   Actually I love to eat green bananas. But, when I eat them, I will meet some allergic problems. You can prepare fruit mixture by adding it with other fruits like grapes, orange, jack and pineapple.

      Actually, green bananas have a latex-like sap, perhaps that is what you are allergic to.  The sap is converted to sugar when it ripens.

      I have severe allergic reactions to the latex in mangos but with green bananas the problem is not severe; they must be cooked and if you get the chemical on you during preparation it can be removed with soap and water.

   Yes, when I was in Kenya they served us green bananas, but they weren't like the green bananas we think of in the states. These were actually ripe and great tasting. They were slightly smaller than what we have here, and no they were not plantains.

   I don’t eat them fully green, but I like them with some green. They have a more sweet/sour combo taste that I love! I hate any brown on them.

   In Northern Peru we used to eat them as a rice substitute. Boil the green bananas until soft and allow them to cool. Then peel, mash and fry in oil. This dish is called "majao" and it's much more delicious and nutritious than white rice.

   It's true, there are green bananas but they are ripe, they are of different variety I guess. I slice them very thin and put cold milk and hmmmn, yummy. On green bananas which are unripe, you can make them banana chips. Just like you said, dry them first before you can cook them for chips. Other recipes are on the net.

    I've been eating green bananas since I was a lad. It is easy to prepare and tastes great.
    
    There are a number of ways to eat green bananas. I will give you information on the ways I eat them and how they are prepared. This includes boiling, frying and making porridge. 
    
    The most popular way of eating green bananas is to boil them. You have to choose bananas before they become fit for ripening. If you choose bananas that are ready to ripe, they will not be as tender as the younger ones.
    
    Put water enough to cover the amount of green bananas you are about to cook. Bring to a boil. In the meantime, peel bananas. To avoid stains on hand, use a little cooking oil over hands. Use a knife and make a slit the skin from one end of a banana to the other. Remove skin and place banana in pot.
    
    Boil until tender. Salt to taste.
    
    Green bananas can be fried. Peel bananas. Put on the frying pan with oil and heat. You can either cut bananas into flat pieces or flatten them by crushing in a clean cloth. Place bananas into heated frying pan and fry until they are light brown.
    
    For making banana porridge, you peel bananas, blend in a blender with little water, then add mixture to boiling water. Boil under low flame until banana mixture is cooked. Add salt, sugar, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg according to your taste.
    
    These are three ways to eat bananas. Add your favorite meat or fish and enjoy!

       The cooking oil on the hands is a great idea to reduce the possibility of latex stains on your hands.  We have a green plantain here in Costa Rica that is called a cuadrato (guineo) that is boiled and served in soups.
