Mine is rice, shrimp/chicken with vegetables in there famous sauces.. also you can't forget there shrimp egg roll. YUMM!!! Chinese potluck party here frienz
MMM Pani that does sound good, but I always order the same thing, Roast Pork Egg Foo Young with House Fried Rice! If I am extra hungry i order the POO POO Platter, and have leftovers for the next day.
I love chicken sweet and sour Hong Kong style, fried rice and a side portion of mixed veg. This thread is making me hungry! Haven't had a Chinese carryout for 3 years (there aren't any around here, that's why)
Living here - there is such a vast range and everything different, but none that really tops the bill in an obvious way.
All the dishes you mention are pre-revolution and mostly Cantonese from the south of China so only a few of them around here. Western Chinese cooking - I miss it in the same way as I miss roast dinner, but most of all I miss Indian food, not Indian in India, Western Indian food from the best Indian restaurants in the world in Birmingham UK.
We get this, but every restaraunt makes it differently around the central idea of diced chicken.
Mu Shu Pork we have this also - it is pronounced Mor gu zhu ro (mushroom with pork)
Pani - your description is a little more exotic than here - but we western like to 'adjust' things more to our taste, I do. The cooking style you describe is how almost everything gets cooked here.
Braised, shredded pork and julienne vegetables. It's served with a crepe-like wrap to roll it up in, some places assemble them for you, and some serve them like fajitas.
Well, you guys have convinced me. As tomorrow is a shopping day, I believe I will have to have lunch at our local chinese restaurant. This sounds yummy.
Won ton soup Bird nest soup Peking duck Foi gnook (Chinese roasted pork) Steamed pickerel with sweet pickles Stuffed Chinese mushrooms Dim sum (oh, had to throw that in!!) Shrimp and tomatoes and what's a meal without something sweet? That would be egg tarts!
Oh, missing home sooo much now...maybe I'll make some won tons tomorrow...
There was a place when I lived in Dallas that their shredded pork was shredded noodle style, not chunks or sliced. They had the best I have ever eaten. Can't find any Chinese Restaurant that shreds the pork that way anymore.
As a chef, we don't eat out much, I make a broccoli and pork dish (actually weight watchers) that my kids ask for pretty often. Hmm, maybe I should make it soon.
Fried rice with Sesame and Mandarin chicken with grilled vegetables on the side with two or three beef egg rolls on the side. MmmMmMm. + a fortune cookie. Can't forget that.
As we all are living very busy lives, no longer do we plan as many meals as we used to. After a long week, my wife and have deemed Friday our "take out" night as far as dinners go. We have a few favorites, but our favorite, is a few taco trucks here in town.
I was thinking, is it possible to cook a nice dinner in 15 minutes? Not a TV-dinner, something real, that needs preparation, not reheating. Any ideas? I am so tired of spending my late evenings in the kitchen, but I HATE sandwitches!
