McDonalds To Raise Menu Prices
Mac bites back with price hikes to offset rising commodities costs
October 22, 2010 | By InvestorPlace Staff
If you plan on stopping by McDonalds (NYSE: MCD) in the near future, plan on spending more for your Big Mac than youre used to. Today, McDonalds announced that it plans to raise menu prices to offset the rising cost of commodities.
McDonaldâs Chief Financial Officer Peter Benson predicted that commodity prices will jump 2% or 3% in 2011. When the cost of the hamburger and cheese rises, its only natural that customers will be the ones paying the difference.
Benson does not believe the price hike will be a huge factor, as October sales have been strong. MCD also posted an earnings increase of 10% for the third quarter. The company has not disclosed how steep the menu price hikes will be.
This is the first price increase for McDonalds since the end of 2009, and comes at a time when many Americans are pinching pennies. McDonalds has thrived by offering customers low-price options, and by not raising prices earlier, MCD has been able to gain market share against competitors like Wends Arbys Group (NYSE: WEN) and Burger King (NYSE: BKC).
At the beginning of the month, McDonalds started its Monopoly ....
oh no!

Brilliant making the change on the monopoly month or however long it is.
Now everyone is going to continue to go and get the monopoly stamps, and when its over they will forget that the prices were raised and continue going.
Stacie:
McDonalds sucks...big time!
Their food is awful!
Their prices rise for crap food and people still eat there!
If I'm gonna eat fast food, I'll go to "Wendy's" or Burgerking.
In Texas, there's a fast food place called "whataburger" that charges a bit more than mickey'd's, but the food is so superior.
'Beats me why mickey'd's is still in business.
"There's a sucker born every minute!"

I agree and i guess my sarcastic "oh no!" at the end of the article was lost on everyone...
i got it Stacie...me too....omg! 2 bad! ...what will the world do now?
....i remember being in Amsterdam and seeing the golden arches and then travelling to Paris and running into Starbucks..........of course i had to go in and order a gigantic coffee with or without fattening sumthin'....not really!
Anybody who eats that crap deserves to be ripped off, if you eat enough of it then you can offset the price rises by stopping your pension contributions. Many McDonalds regulars will be unlikely to reach retirement age. In fact, they make as well begin charging $100 and serving it with .999 silver cutlery. And if they are worried about leaving an inheritance, they may as well not worry about that either if they are one of those that takes their 5 year old child to a McDonalds three or four times a week.
There, simples. If you dont like the price rise then start eating healthy food, get some exercise whilst you at it, and no... I don't mean stretching for the remote control. A horrible company, horrible ingredients, and a damn ugly clown. Not America's best export, Starbucks is pretty good though.
maybe it will help some make the cut from eating the junk.
obesity rates started to rise after fast food became breakfast, lunch and dinner instead of eating real food.
watch or read Fast Food Nation and see how that 'food' is made. it's been out for a number of years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc_z623Wsro
Never been a McDonalds fan. I think people who want to be around for awhile, need to say goodbye to the local grease drippin McDonalds!
I think this is the least of our worries.

It's really interesting!
I am not worried about that i go to Mcdo twice a year just because of my nieces and nephews.
I really dont know why kids love going to Mcdo .
Peer pressure may be
Maybe consumers should take a 'hike' instead, the exercise will do them good
