How To Make Guava Shells From Scratch With This Delicious Guava Shell Recipe

Guava shells or "Casco de Guayaba" in Spanish, is one of my favorite Latin desserts. Guavas are so delicious, so sweet and so juicy. Since I left Puerto Rico a few years ago, I haven't eaten a real fresh guava. They are very hard to find, specially here in the States. But If you are lucky enough to find a fresh guava, you need to try it with my guava shells recipe.

This recipe that I will share with you, I have known it since I was a little girl. It's so easy to make. We always eat it with white cheese or cream cheese. It's so good! I know you would love it, so go ahead and try it, you won't regret it.

Boil The Guava Shells For The Guava Shell Recipe

In a large casserole or pot boil the guava shells in approx. 1 liter of water for about 1 hour, until the shells are tender.

In another pot and with this same water and only using 3 cups of it to add it with the guava shells.

Add the sugar and lime juice. Leave it uncovered for about 45 minutes to an hour, or until the syrup is thick and the guavas are even more tender.

For This Guava Shell Recipe You Can Also Use The Guava Shells In A Can

If you can't find any guavas where you live, then you can use the guavas that come already slides and peeled in a can. You can get these at any local supermarket or Latin Stores. They are not that hard to find. I get my guavas from Walmart if I can't get them fresh. There are also many labels and brands. Some of the brands are Bohio and Goya.

This is a really good alternative to the homemade recipe.

coming from Florida I have eaten guavas since childhood. shells, jelly etc.

I now live in NC and my brother has to freeze and save them for me. They are so hard to peel frozen and you can't wait for them to defrost or they are too soft to peel. wish they could be blanched.

We have a similar dish with coconut milk instead of lime and cheese. I will definitely try your recipe when the guavas are in season.

I first ate Guava Jelly with cheese in Colombia, and I thought it was an odd combination, but really good. I used to work in Miami with a group of Cubans, and I miss the wonderful Pastelitos they used to bring in, fresh pastries filled with Guava, so good, especially with Cafe Cubano. Great recipes and pictures, blessed.

I haven'y eaten Guava in a couple of year, but I like them very much, even Guava juice. As a kid, when I was still in Goa, we used to eat Guavas all the time. This is the first time, I'm seeing this recipe...looks delicious...blessings! :)

I love guava, including shells. However my first choice would be in a Guava Duff and my second would be the guava and cheese pastries sold in many places around here Unfortunately, fresh guavas are getting very hard to find in the area unless you have your own tree. Great lens, thanks!
