How To Make Guava Shells From Scratch With This Delicious Guava Shell Recipe
Guava shells or "Casco de Guayaba" in Spanish, is one of my favorite Latin desserts. Guavas are so delicious, so sweet and so juicy. Since I left Puerto Rico a few years ago, I haven't eaten a real fresh guava. They are very hard to find, specially here in the States. But If you are lucky enough to find a fresh guava, you need to try it with my guava shells recipe.
This recipe that I will share with you, I have known it since I was a little girl. It's so easy to make. We always eat it with white cheese or cream cheese. It's so good! I know you would love it, so go ahead and try it, you won't regret it.
Guava Shells Recipe
WHAT WOULD YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR GUAVA SHELL RECIPE...
2 lbs. of fresh Guavas
3 Cups of Sugar
3 Cups of water
1 medium Lime

Make Sure Your Guavas Are Fresh and Healthy For This Guava Recipe
When picking your guavas for your guava shells recipe, make sure that they are healthy and fresh. It would make a huge difference and it would not taste the same.
After washing your guavas,/b>, proceed to peel them with a vegetable peeler. Try to peel very carefully and just a thin layer of the skin, you don't want to take took much.
The Guavas Are Peeled and Ready For Boiling
Peel Your Guavas In This Guava Recipe
After you peel all the 2 lbs of guava, cut them in half and with a spoon and being very careful, take all the seeds and pulp out.
this will leave you only with the guava hard skin.
Boil The Guava Shells For The Guava Shell Recipe
In a large casserole or pot boil the guava shells in approx. 1 liter of water for about 1 hour, until the shells are tender.
In another pot and with this same water and only using 3 cups of it to add it with the guava shells.
Add the sugar and lime juice. Leave it uncovered for about 45 minutes to an hour, or until the syrup is thick and the guavas are even more tender.

Your guava shells should look like this one, with the thick sweet syrup. You can now place your guava shells in decorative bowls, dessert cups or whatever you choose.
In my family and in most of the Latin community we eat the Guava Shells with delicious white cheese or cream cheese, it's just amazing! You should try it.

If you can't find any guavas where you live, then you can use the guavas that come already slides and peeled in a can. You can get these at any local supermarket or Latin Stores. They are not that hard to find. I get my guavas from Walmart if I can't get them fresh. There are also many labels and brands. Some of the brands are Bohio and Goya.
This is a really good alternative to the homemade recipe.
