Homemade Ice Cream Made Easy

Updated on August 23, 2017

Homemade Ice Cream--Synonymous with Summertime

Homemade ice cream, in my opinion, is an essential summertime treat. There is nothing like making your own ice cream. No other frozen dessert can compare in flavor and texture.

Plus making it yourself can be a family activity for everyone to take part in and enjoy, especially if you use the old fashioned crank-type ice cream maker.

However, ice cream making can be done speedier and easier when using a more modern approach. Having the right tools for the job makes many tasks easy.

But whether you choose the modern or old-fashioned approach, the results are tasty, cooling, and summertime refreshing.

Now, how do you make it easy?

Making Homemade Ice Cream

The Easy Part

The right tools do make any job easier and the best tool I have found for making ice cream is the White Mountain Electric Ice Cream Machine. If you have ever made ice cream the old fashioned way with the crank model, you know that an electric model makes the job a breeze. It's the easiest, quickest way to make your own ice cream at home.

Simply stir up your ice cream recipe, pour it into the canister, add the proper amount of ice and rock salt. Plug in the motor and it does all the work. Just randomly check on ice and salt levels throughout the freezing time and in 30-40 minutes, your homemade ice cream is ready to enjoy!

And I will share the easiest ice cream recipe that you can have ready to freeze in minutes. This recipe is my family's favorite and beats all other recipes on taste, even the one's with tedious cooking steps and complicated mixing procedures.

Backyard Birthday Party

Have a summer backyard birthday party and celebrate with homemade ice cream made the easy way.

White Mountain 6qt Electric Ice Cream Maker - An American Family Tradition Since 1853

White Mountain Ice Cream makers have been around since before the Civil War. Probably back then those models were surely the crank type though. But this company has a long track record of making quality ice cream makers and has been doing it for a really long time.

I know their machines are top quality and are products of superior craftsmanship.

A White Mountain Electric Ice Cream Machine will make the best quality homemade ice cream and will do it quickly and easily.

White Mountain Ice Cream Maker with Appalachian Series Wooden Bucket, 6-Quart Electric

White Mountain Ice Cream makers feature the triple dasher system which produces superior homemade ice cream.

This brand is dependable and sturdy. A White Mountain Ice Cream Maker will be around for years and may even become a family heirloom to pass on to the next generation.

A White Mountain Ice Cream Maker is more expensive that most brands, but from my experience, this ice cream maker is well worth the money. They are a "work horse" and last for decades.

I have bought cheaper models but they do not have the power, do not hold up, and produce inferior quality ice cream.

So it becomes a choice between buying "one" sturdy ice cream maker that lasts OR to buy "several" cheap ones over the years that break and do not hold up.

Uses only 3 ingredients and no mixer--just a whisk.

The chocolate homemade ice cream pictured in this lens also has 1/2 a package of double-stuff oreos added to the ice cream mix. It was delicious and there were no left-overs.

You can use your imagination to come up with other flavors. I made strawberry ice cream by replacing the chocolate milk with strawberry soda pop and added fresh strawberries.

Cook Time

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 33 - 43 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz container Cool Whip
  • 1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk

  2. Pour into ice cream canister.
  3. Then implement normal method of making homemade ice cream according to appliance directions.

Create Your Favorite Flavors by Adding Candy or Cookies

Oreos cookies, Snickers candy bars, M & M's, etc can be added during the last 5-10 minutes of mixing to make a special creation. Use your imagination and add your favorite candy, cookies, marshmallows, fruit, or nuts to make homemade ice cream with your own personal touch.

White Mountain 4qt Crank Model Ice Cream Maker

My Grandma had a White Mountain Ice Cream Maker, a crank model. It made delicious ice cream and it still works today.

The crank model can be fun to operate, especially for kids. I have many memories of making ice cream at Grandma's and it was always delicious.

Being on the farm back then, we made the ice cream with fresh eggs, milk, and cream we produced there.

Yes, my Grandmother used to make it with Grape Nuts cereal in it. It was pretty good. I have a Vitamix blender which makes it pretty easy. Blessed!

I have yet to find a 'store bought' ice cream that compares with my mother's home made. It must be the extra 'love' she added.

I just wanted to say I LOVE the Cat-In-The-Hat cake. Beautiful colors. You should make it a traditional birthday cake for Sampson. It will take on more meaning as he gets older and reads the books.

I love ice cream and home made is awesome. We actually have a restaurant a mile or two away that makes their own ice creams... best of both worlds, I say!

      Great lens.

I will say that home made ice cream is more healthy then supermarket... as we know exactly what we put in!

I have an old Borden dessert booklet that has an icecream design. Page 17 Coffee Ice Cream is my choice. The date listed on the publication is 1981. This is the only thing that I have made from this booklet. It was worth the cost.
