How to Make Diet Shakes ~ with Avocado

You might not think to add avocado to a diet shake, but avocados are a superfood that adds a lovely smooth texture to your shake as well as adding primo healthy nutrients and fats.

Never fear avocados as being high in fat. They are high in the GOOD fat that your body needs, making them a highly nutritious superfood.

Add the following ingredients to your blender:

* 2 bananas

* 2 cups orange juice

* 1 cup of strawberries (preferably fresh, but frozen will do)

* 1 cup of orange or strawberry sherbet

* 1 cup ice

* 1 avocado, peeled and pitted

Blend the ingredients until smooth. Serve immediately.

My husband and I are smoothie fanatics, and I often make giant smoothies for both of us, so I needed a blender powerful enough to take care of lots of frozen fruit at once. Man, does this thing do the trick! The pitcher is really wide, so ingredients at the top are more easily sucked down to the blades, and it almost never develops that annoying air pocket that prevents anything from happening at the bottom. My old blender would do that so often, it would take me forever just to make a smoothie for myself, and no way could it handle two at the same time. This one has a stir stick to keep things going, and since it's exactly the right length, I don't have to worry about it hitting the blades while the blender's on - when I have to use it at all. I can fill the pitcher literally to the brim and it has no trouble mixing really thick smoothies (frozen mangoes, strawberries, pineapple, melon, bananas, etc.) really well. I thought the pour spout would be a hassle, but it's very sturdy, never leaks and keeps things really clean - plus, you can take it off and replace it with a cap (included) if you want. The base is featureless except for the dial on the side, so it's super easy to clean too - when I have to, which is almost never. I just can't say enough about this blender. It's awesome!

      I cannot eat too much soy, so I do a Greek yogurt and fat free milk shake. Add favorite flavorings (fruit powders work well) and ice and blend along with favorite fruit such as pineapple or a banana. These work very well for me. I have a reaction to soy, which is sad because they taste the best, but what I have come up with is pretty good.

      WOW this is a really good lens. Me and my wife tried some diet shakes a while ago and kinda lost interest in them. We're not on any shakes or anything like that now but we are losing weight pretty quick since following the rules in the diet solution program.

      Not are we losing weight but we are now feeling great and full of energy. Will definitely try some of your home made shake ideas though as a meal replacement. They sound yummy.

      Oh wow, I am loving some of these recipes. My wife and I currently use the ViSalus Vi-Shape Shake mix as meal replacements and we have several favorite recipes but we are always looking to switch things up a bit.       Do these diet shakes really work? I've heard of them, but they seem like they would be tasty and work at the beginning, but afterwards, it seems that you would get sick of them. But I suppose that happens with everything that you try over and over again.

      The banana diet shake is a big favorite of mine and a great way to kick start your day. Combine this with some tone stomach exercises as part of a cardio workout and you're well on your way to losing that body fat. Something for everyone here, nice lens.

      Thanks you, Jackie. I Iove your ideas and must say that the avocado shake is incredible. I never believed it until I went to Bali, where it's a daily thing there. The blender, I've never tried, but have the Vitamix. I'll have to check out your Back to Basics SALPHA500 Smoothie recommendation I'll have to add that over at my friend's site.

      I love smoothies. Just recently I tried another Squidoo foodie's green smoothie recipe, her version has leafy greens and bananas and some other fruit, my version has leafy greens, pineapples and oranges and got really addicted to it. Now I am wanting to try your diet shake. Is this going to help me lose another inch from my waist?

      Good topic Jackie. Protein shakes are great for snacks or when you have a sweet craving. Another good tip for making your smoothies more frothy and thick is adding 1 tsp of flaxseed oil.
