How To Make Mini Cakes

Updated on May 20, 2015

My sister gave me a book on mini cakes a few months ago (listed below) and that's when my love for mini cakes began. My sister & I went straight to my kitchen and starting making tons of these cute little guys. We made square, circle, and tiered mini cakes and decorated them in every possible way that we could think of. They were extremely easy and fun to make and the sisterly bonding was great!

Listed below is my very simple recipe to make mini cakes. I'm pretty sure that you'll find them fun to make as well. Grab a family member and/or a friend and go have a blast. It's a great way to spend some time together and to make some wonderful memories.

Cook Time

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10-12 minutes

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Sift flour into mixing bowl
  2. Add sugar and egg; mix
  3. Add milk; mix
  4. Lightly grease an 8 x 8 baking dish with butter
  5. Pour mixture into the baking dish
  6. Bake at 325 degrees F for 5-7 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean
  7. Remove from oven and cool; about 10 minutes
  8. After cooling, use pastry cutters (round or square) to cut cake into small pieces
  9. Spread icing on top of one piece of cake, then place a 2nd piece of cake on top
  10. Ice the whole mini cake
  11. Add fondant; follow directions on fondant box (optional)
  12. Decorate and enjoy!

@favored: That's exactly right. A lot of people like these mini cakes for weddings & baby/bridal showers because of the size and that they are much easier and less messy than slicing a cake piece by piece. Thank you for visiting and SquidLiking!

The mini cake idea is so great. It's nice that everyone gets their own and it's a good sized piece. Plus it works for any event.
