how to make tasty green chili the family will love

I love this stuff

As far as I can find out. Green chili has been around since some time in the 1500s

You can find as many ways to make green chili as people who make it.

My family is picky because of this I have played around for years looking for a recipe they would like.

Cook Time

Prep time: 30 min
Cook time: 2 hours
Ready in: 2 hours 30 min
Yields: about 4 or 5 cups

You will need

  • 1 pound Diced pork, Use more or less to your taste
  • 1 Tomato, diced
  • 1- 27 oz Can of whole green chillis
  • 3 cloves Garlic, put through a garlic press
  • 1 Teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground red pepper
  • 2 Cups Chicken broth
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • 2 Table spoons Olive oil
  • 1/2 Small onion, finely Chopped

You will also need a pot large enough to hold about 6 cups.

I Like the Hatch brand green chili You can buy them in Mild Medium or Hot depending on your taste. I also always use fresh garlic. For the chicken broth I sometimes just take 4 cups of water and add chicken bouillon to taste. Be careful though this can make it very salty.



In the big pot

Pour your olive oil in the large pot and heat it on medium high.

In a large baggie combine the Flour Ground red pepper and cumin, Shake until mixed.

Add the cubed pork to the baggie and shake again untill pork is evenly coated.

Place the coated pork into the hot oil and cook turning to brown on all sides.

After the pork is browned on all sides

Add the water,broth,tomato,onion,and garlic.

Next open the Green chilies pull one out and eat it because it is delish. Oh wait maybe that's just me LOL . What I do is pull each chili into several long pieces . You can chop them put them in whole or what ever you prefer.Add the chilies and the liquid from the can to the pot.

Cover the pot and let it simmer for two hours.

Almost there

Ok we almost have great green chili. One last step

In a measuring cup mix one cup of cold water with the remaining flour mixture . You want to mix it well be sure it is smooth no lumps at all.

Pour the flour and water mixture into the chili mixing constantly. turn up the heat to bring it to a boil and boil still mixing until the chili thickens.

This will make it thick enough to stick to your burritos or eggs or. Well you know it is good on every thing. Please enjoy I hope your family loves it like mine does.

P.S. If your Green chili sauce is to thick just add a little more water until it is the thickness you desire.
