I really am thrilled. Previously, when there was a release like The Hunger Games about which the fans were so excited, we had to work hard to come up with recipe resources but not so the case with The Hunger Games for there is already an unofficial cookbook available as illustrated here, called The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook.

If you are familiar with the series, you are aware that staying alive is not a simple task for the characters in The Hunger Games and that they had to resort to finding food in whatever ways they could. This, depending upon who you are, might involve hunting, baking and working long, long days to scrape out a living. For the lucky, there was an unlimited source of food available.

This cookbook shares the recipes from the poor District 12 to the rich Capital and includes bread from the Mellark Bakery, Katniss's lamb stew, Rue's roasted parsnips and Gale's big game soup.

The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook was published on December 1, 2011. So far this 256 page book has been met with mostly good Amazon customer reviews, which can be read by clicking right here. A sampling of the quotes includes:

Kathleen Weisman says, " I could not imagine a more loving tribute to the Hunger Games trilogy."

Cooking Mom said, "...I'd recommend this to anyone who likes the series enough to want to cook from it."

Finally, reviewer F.L. said, "Expected this to be a nice bit of Hunger Games memorabilia, and was surprised to find that it's actually a good cookbook! The recipes are varied, interesting, and delicious. And there are a LOT of them - this is not a skimpy book. It also does a wonderful job incorporating the Hunger Games."

"The Hunger Games trilogy captivates its audience through a storyline dominated by the quest for food, with the vast culinary disparity between the impoverished districts and the opulent Capitol taking center stage. For the Hunger Games characters, food is both a weapon and an act of love, and -- as in today's world -- it is essential to survival."

Table Decor Idea District 12 - Dress your table with these District 12 candles from Cinema and Spice.

Beeswax candles would have been perfect in District 12 because they had limited electricity and because they take advantage of a natural resource (honey). They're easy to make and they would make a great gift idea for any Hunger Games fan...see how in this video by Cinema and Spice.

Wow, I can't believe somebody made recipes out of all of the dishes mentioned in the HG books. That's awesome! I have read all three books and I will now have to get this cookbook too. Super cute and clever!

I adored all 3 books -- and never noticed the food! Isn't that interesting? I am fascinated that someone would read the books and notice the food. After watching the interview with one of the authors, I could remember those scenes and thought, "of course...a chef would notice the food." I am so glad she did! The cookbooks will be super hits, too!
