I Love Rumchata
Rumchata is the New Drink Sensation
Rumchata is the newest alcoholic drink sensation taking over the country. In fact, it should be called YUMCHATA it's so yummy. Why it didn't become popular in the United States before now is beyond me. Mexicans make Horchata with rice milk, the Spainards with Chufa (tiger nut) and now thies creamy liqueur has taken the nation by storm.
Rumchata is primarily a ladies drink and delivers a creamy taste. Since it's so sweet and is perfect for a dessert drink. It is sinfully sweet that and taste just like liquid Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. I'm not kidding. The first time I had Rumchata a friend just poured it over ice and handed me the glass. I slowly licked my lips, sat back and curled my hands around the glass. I was in heaven.
I'm not even really a drinker. I might have one or two drinks when I go out, but any alcohol in the house sticks around for a while because I have a wild hair and buy a big bottle just for one drink. Buttershots is an example of this, I love it in hot chocolate.
Back to Rumchata though. In the past year I have made Rumchata cupcakes, Rumchata French toast, and a tasty Rumchata Eggnog Float. Recipes are below, so keep reading and you'll find out why I love the stuff so much.
FYI: I just returned from a trip to New England and wanted to buy Rumchata for a friend, you know a girls night, It's not sold in Connecticut yet! Someone could really make some money, seriously get on board and get distribution in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
Make Rumchata at Home
Many Hispanics and Mexicans love this sweet rice milk beverage which has a nutty flavor. Horchata is the base from which home made rumchata can be made.
Just add white rum to rice milk (horchata) and you have instant Rumchata.
Whenever we go out to eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant my husband always orders Horchata, or rice milk. It's very sweet and has a slight nutty vanilla taste. This is where the Cinnamon Toast Crunch taste from the Rumchata comes from, the special Horchata blend of spices.
Can't Find Rumchata in the Store - Make Your Own Rumchata
Rumchata is not distributed nationwide, and certainly not worldwide, yet. I found this out the hard way when I was visiting Connecticut and wanted to have a girls night, which isn't complete without Rumchata by the way. I searched the grocery stores, package stores, liqueur stores, and even called beverage distributors. Rumchata is only in limited distribution.
So where can you get Rumchata is it's not sold in your state? Can you buy RumChata online? No, but you can make Rumchata at home. It's not that hard, and some say it's even better than from the bottle. But you can choose to use the full fat cream (yum) or a diet, low fat Rumchata using Cinnamon Rice milk (horchata). The choice is yours.
Hispanics make Horchata from scratch, but for those without the time or patience you can buy a "Rumchata starter" and make homemade Rumchata. Considering that my Rumchata habit can be expensive this is the way to go in my opinion. A bottle normally cost between $18-22.00 and it's easy to drink it between two people in just an evening.
The recipe is easy. 2/3 of Horchata mix to 1/3 White Rum (Bacardi works well)
If you really like the rice milk then the most economical option is to purchase Horchata in the concentrated version, very similiar to concentrated orange juice. Just mix with water, or milk for a creamy mix, add white rum and you have home made Rumchata.
If Rumchata is not sold in your state this is the next best thing.
History Of Rumchata
The Start of Something Wonderful
The origins of Rumchata started in Egypt as a drink prepared for the pharaohs from chufa (what's that?), oh, tiger-nut. The popularity then spread to Spain where it really took off and became a very popular summer drink.. When the Spainards settled Mexico they found Chufa did not grow well in this part of the world and they started making Horchata with rice milk and mixing it with cinnamon, vanilla, and using either milk or water as the base.
RumChata was first sold in the United States starting in 2009 and has become a mega craze. It's hard to explain, but cinnamonny goodness comes to mind, yummy lip licking deliciousness, and oh wow! According to the official Rumchata website it's Antonio Banderas popular, I can go with that.
I can understand why the people of Spain love this drink. It makes me feel like sitting on a beach chair, relaxing, and not having a care in the world.
Make Rumchata Flavored Candy
Not for making french toast or cupcakes, but the ingredient in making Horchata (Rumchata) hard candies or suckers. Gotta give this a try.
RumChata is Mighty Fine - Sinfully Delightful
Just tasting a Rumchata drink and I close my eyes and I'm instantly on vacation. Ok, that's a stretch, but yeah it kinda fits with this video of making you feel oh so good and sensual. This is almost as good as the Old Spice commercial. I can watch it over and over again.
I do have to say, Rumchata IS the best tasting cream liqueur ever. Goes down smooth, so smooth that a bottle doesn't last very long.
Rumchata For Breakfast - Very Easy and Simple Recipe
This is a fun and HAPPY sign. Why limit happy hour when friends can pop over any time.
Rumchata French Toast
Rumchata french toast is very easy and although it already contains vanilla and cinnamon I still add a sprinkle of each. I can't leave well enough alone with a recipe, I have to make it mine. Enjoy my morning of bliss.
Who says you're only supposed to drink after 10am? Then make Rumchata french toast for brunch. Serve with butter, warm pancake or maple syrup, and you have a scrumptious start of the day.
You can definitely taste the Rumchata in the French toast, especially if you let the bread soak up the liquid, so 21 and over please.

Rumchata for Breakfast
This breakfast recipe is wonderful to share with your husband, your friends, or brunch with the girls. It's so easy you really don't need a recipe, but if you don't you might be tempted to dip the bread in straight Rumchata. Don't do that, it does need added milk.
(By the way, the photos are mine, taking during my brunch photo shoot)
Prep Time: 10
Total Time: 30
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 cup milk ( low fat or whole fat)
- 1/3 cup Rumchata

(Take a sip of Rumchata) Dip each side of the bread in the milk mixture letting the bread soak up the milk and Rumchata. (Take a sip of Rumchata) Place in heated frying pan or skillet and brown both sides. (Take a sip of Rumchata, see a pattern here?)
RumChata Shaker - For Making your own Rumchata
A RumChata shaker for mixing your Horchata from scratch. If you are a RumChata addict, like me, then it's cheaper to try to make your own, either from a Horchata concentrate, mix or from scratch. Definitively worth a try don't you think? No one will ever know and you might start your own neighborhood craze.
If you decide you want to try and make your own Rumchata you need a shaker since the Rum and the milk mixture wants to separate due to it's different weight.

I Really Don't Drink Much - But Rumchata is addicting
I'm really not a drinker, I don't party every weekend (shoot I'm a parent) and I don't like beer.
But, there are some alcoholic drinks that are so delicious that I absolutely love them and will share with whomever stops by. Rumchata is a drink to share and so are my margaritas.
Anything with chocolate is right up my alley, so bring on the vodka infused brownies. It has to be in here doesn't it?
Cooking with Alcohol - Recipe Books using your Favorite Liquors
So many alcoholic drinks are perfect in cooking. Most of the time the high heat bakes out the actual alcoholic content, but it does leave the flavor.
I have made Rumchata cupcakes, french toast, cookies, and ice cream floats. I have mixed it with orange soda, rootbeer, eggnog, and poured it over ice cream.
It's so much fun to cook with liquors, rum and other drink mixes. That what happens when you mix alcohol with women, we find a way to put it into our food.

Rumchata and Rootbeer - Another Rumchata Drink
Mixing Rumchata and Rootbeer is a very delightful drink and very easy to mix. Depending on how strong you like your drink you can mix 1:1 ratio, or 2 parts rootbeer to 1 part Rumchata. I prefer the one third ratio as I can drink several in one evening without feeling as though I've had too much to drink
Make sure to use Dad's or A&W Rootbeer in your Rumchata as other brands might cause it to curdle. Remember Rumchata contains cream and some soda pop has a high acidic content.
(more recipes as I mix and try them out for myself.)

Rumchata and Hot Chocolate - Add Rumchata to Hot Chocolate
This Rumchata gift box was a present from my son at Christmas and it came with a thermal ceramic mug, perfect for my Rumchata and Chocolate drink. I also had gingerbread marshmallows and as they melted it added a little bit of ginger flavor to my drink. Heaven in a cup.
Rumchata Hot Chocolate - A smooth and rich drink
The smooth taste of cinnamon and vanilla in hot chocolate.
Mix as strong or mild as you like. Fill your mug 3/4 with hot chocolate and fill the rest with Rumchata. Or for a little more kick use 2/3 chocolate and 1/3 Rumchata.
It's a wonderful winter drink to warm up your insides and it's become my favorite winter drink. Even more than hot chocolate and buttershots, that's why the buttershots is still in the cabinet.
