I haven't made applesauce in many years. That pie recipe looks delicious and vegan! I prefer Earth Balance shortening to Crisco, however. Have you tried it?

I go NUTS over all kinds of Wonderful APPLES!...Gala, Ida Reds, golden/red delicious, granny smith...you name it! I always throw in a few pears into my applesauce recipe,as it is the perfect compliment to apples,in addition to 1-2 tsp.pure vanilla extract, YUM!. When I have a little "leftover" reisling, I splash my apples w/some and then steam them (pears) in the delicious wine/water broth...O-M-G!!!

There is nothing better than apple crisp or apple brown betty! One trick I use is to buy the nutmeg in whole form and grate it myself, it makes a world of difference! The flavor stays stronger longer that way too, I'll never buy grated nutmeg again. And I do add a bit of nutmeg into any apple recipe, including my apple sauce.
