Ice cream is one of those things that everyone loves and is especially good when the weather starts to heat up. I mean is there really anything better than ice cream on a hot summer day? I don't know about you, but I can't think of any!

As everyone in the universe knows, I am obsessed with food and these days, even more obsessed about trying to recreate favorite dishes and treats at home. No matter how difficult it seems or how tiny my apartment kitchen is, I usually find a way.

So on this particularly hot and humid day, there was nothing that I desired more than cold and creamy ice cream and although it's true that it's easier to run across the street for one ( at less than a dollar a piece! ), I decided to make my own.

I love coming up with new flavors for my homemade ice creams. Although I don't own an ice cream maker, I do enjoy perusing through ice cream cookbooks as I can usually replicate them in my own way. What I love about this particular book is the combination of beautiful layout, easy-to-follow instructions and the very interesting flavor combinations. Love this book.

Is It Possible to Make Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker?

Why of course it is! You see, I've been making ice cream sans ice cream maker ever since I was 15. My aunt used to make them all the time and would let me help out. She'd usually let me whip the cream for her while she watched her favorite daytime soap operas.

Her method was simple and would usually involve whipping heavy cream and the egg whites separately. The egg yolks would finally be added at the end before the extra add-ins (vanilla extract, chocolate chips, etc). I gotta tell you that whipping the cream and egg whites to soft peaks manually by hand, took some time and effort so I didn't love it enough to want to make it everyday!

Fast forward to today. After years of being able to mess around in my own kitchen, I learned that I could skip a lot of the steps above. Along the way, I even learned to omit the eggs from the recipe completely. This new recipe requires less ingredients, minimal effort, and near-perfect results.

This recipe requires just 4 simple ingredients. The sugar, the cream, lemon and lime. If you decided to go with say, vanilla, you're down to a mere 3 ingredients. How much easier can it be?

This recipe is super easy-peasy. However if you'd like to see a more detailed step-by-step recipe with tons of photos, I recommend you visit my post over at my food and travel blog TabiEats. I promise you'll like what you see!
