Making Your Own Kahlua
My Kahlua Recipe
Making my own Kahlua has been a bit of a family tradition for a long time. My grandma gave me the recipe years ago. The first time I made it was with my mother in law. Now we make some (a lot) every year around Christmas time.
Not only does it keep me sane throughout the holidays, it makes a great gift as well. I've been getting more and more requests for my Kahlua with each passing year.... although, it might have something to do with younger family members coming of age...
Anyhow, everybody seems to enjoy it and I hope you do too!
Here it is....
This recipe is so easy it's ridiculous!
8 cups water
8 cups sugar
1 cup instant coffee
10 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 gallon 80 proof Vodka
Combine water and sugar in large stock pot and bring to boil.
Once boiling add vanilla and instant coffee...mix well and simmer for 2 hours.
Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
Add Vodka and stir.
Store in dark colored glass bottles (I prefer wine bottles and use a cork/bottle stopper to close)
Yields: 4+ Wine Bottles
Kahlua Video Instructions
This video is a bit more in depth than what I had in mind, but I found it very helpful nonetheless. I'll be making some more using his method in the future. Enjoy!
My Favorite Ways to Drink Kahlua
My most favorite way to drink Kahlua is on the rocks!
Being that it's coffee flavored it's a great addition to your coffee (yes, even at 8 AM).
Shots are another of my favorite as well as a GIANT mudslide!!
With the batch of Kahlua I just made I wanted Kahlua and cream (well I didn't have cream so I improvised) and used vanilla almond milk. It was amazing! Even got my Kahlua hating husband to convert!
Easy and Inexpensive Gift Idea
For me making Kahlua is easy and there are several members of my family that LOVE it. This makes it an easy and inexpensive gift. I made a single batch and after counting all the people who had requested some I realized it would have been easier (and quicker) to just double the batch.
