McDonalds vs Burger King

Updated on May 5, 2011

McDonald's vs. BK: A Duel to Decide Which Truly Rules the Road!

Eating Fast Food seems to be an unwritten rule of the road. Whether for convenience, low cost, or other reasons, my experience indicates that more people eat fast food during their travels than would do so on a normal basis.

Throughout the United States, McDonald's and Burger King are often found in close proximity to one another . . . at the same exits on the interstate, across the street, down the road, or around the corner from each other. Each has there own versions of burger chiefs in the McDonald's Big Mac or the BK Whopper. For breakfast, you can choose the McDonald's McMuffin or the BK Croissan'wich. Operating at very similar locations, each restaurant chain has created slightly differing choices of menu items which are very similar, yet ultimately so different.

Poll - Fast Food While You are Traveling? - Let us know if you do it too!

Before we get started. Let us know whether you fall into our opening blanket statement that people are more likely to eat fast food when they are on the road.

Are you more likely to eat Fast Food while you are traveling?

Breakfast Foods

McMuffin or Croissan'wich . . . this is only the beginning!

In the beginning, making a selection between McD's or BK for breakfast was pretty simple. Are you in the mood for the McMuffin or the Croissan'wich? Easy! I want a Croissan'wich. It's flaky, soft goodness is too hard to resist. Oh wait, I really want a real egg cooked perfectly round with Canadian Bacon and American Cheese on English Muffin. What to do? And nowadays, they have gone and made the choices even more complex.

Before I can decide, I have to consider things like: Do I want a McGriddle or BK French Toast Sticks? Do I want one big hash brown or little bite size ones? Coffee used to be just coffee, but now I have to decide between McCafe and Turbo Joe.

I know, I know. What am I complaining about; choice is good, right? Fine, choice is good. You win. But dang it, I still don't know which to choose this morning and I'm hungry. Help me!!

Poll - Breakfast: McD's or BK? - There can be only one! At least this morning anyway.

I am on the road and am staring dead ahead at McDonald's on the right and BK on the left. Help me decide.

Where should I eat breakfast this morning?

Burger Time!

Special Sauce or Flame Broiled . . . is this it?

Do you remember the McDonald's Big Mac Commercial? "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun." Still sounds good . . . thank you Charles Rosenberg.

Then, there is the always steady and tasty flame broiled masterpiece of the BK Whopper. If I don't say so myself, BK runs a burger through the garden on the way to your to go bag like no place else. There is a veritable salad on there. Ample lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion abound on every Whopper. It is oh so good if you like that kind of stuff. If not: "Have it your way!"

But, the burger time madness of these two omnipresent fast food giants doesn't just stop with their most famous burgers. Oh no, it couldn't be that easy. Today, you'll see TV commercials in which Burger King asserts its dominance over who has the best Double Cheeseburger on their value menus. McD's now has a Mac Wrap. "You crazy Mac, crazy delicious." Without a doubt, this is an innovative spin on a McDonald's classic, but does it make McD's better than BK?

Marketing and innovations aside, the lunch and dinner time choice between McD's and BK burgers has got to come down to taste. Who wins? I'll let you decide.

Poll - Burgers: McD's or BK? - Choose the burger style that beefs up your diet.

It's dinner time. I just got off a 3 hour flight and am headed to the hotel. I'm starving and have to get a burger fix. In the sunset, I see a McD's and a BK. What to do?

Which has the overall better tasting burgers?

French Fries

Fried potatoes . . . does it matter?

This is a hot button topic that can throw any well mannered dinner conversation into the frying pan. They're just fried potatoes, right? Oh no, mon frere. French fries from McD's and BK are distinctly different . . . just ask any enthusiast of one or the other. I'm sure that they will gladly tell you.

Although both menus from McD's and BK list the ingredients of french fries to be, well, french fries, there seems to be something unique about these two side item choices that can make some patrons choose one restaurant over the other.

The Duel - Time to Choose - Road Trip Dilemma

If the next time you went on a road trip, you could only choose one of these fast food giants, McD's or BK, which would it be? And no, you can't let your significant other decide where to eat this time. This is your decision.

Which is it? Choose and let us know why. What tips the scales in favor of one or the other for you?

A Final Question - Added 11/12/2010

Recently BK began a brunch menu. Basically, they are just serving their breakfast menu through the lunch hours. Another fast food chain, Sonic, serves breakfast all day long.

Years ago, fast food chains used to serve breakfast until 11:00 A.M. This was concept that was illuminated in the Adam Sandler comedy Big Daddy. I don't know which is better. Maybe you can help us decide.

Is 10:30 A.M to Early to Stop Serving Breakfast?

I don't eat nearly as many burgers as I used to, but on occasion I have a craving and my wife and I jump into the car to go to a nearby town and get a Whopper from Burger King. We get the double Whoppers (#2 on the menu). McDonalds has nothing that even compares... (We have a McDonald's in town, but never eat there.)

I like Burger King more in general. McDonald's recent burger, the grilled chicken burger, had too much mayo or butter. Either way, I had to scrape that off before I would ever eat McDonald's grilled chicken burger.

I'd have to go with Burger King because they have my favorite Big Fish burgers. If I remembered correctly, Burger King fries are healthier than the ones from McDonald's. Even if McDonald fries tastes good, they can go suck balls. COCKSUCKING DICKS!!

I just ate lunch at Burger King with my two sons and it cost $25.00 a little costly for lunch but, I suppose that is the price you pay for a fast lunch......

I wouldn't mind if McDonald's served breakfast all day, if they also served everything else all day as well ~ I'm not a fan of breakfast food, so I would rather have fries & a McDouble at 8am :)

@TonyPayne: I understand that. I don't eat it now as much as previously. Usually, I do eat more when I travel. However, I must say that I don't have that big of a problem with some of McD's breakfast items. Here's why. I once got part of an eggshell in my McMuffin. While this wasn't pleasant, at least I knew I was eating a real egg.

Good duel. These days I try to steer clear of all fast food places. I don't think I have been to one in almost a year now.
