Nona's Chilli Cheese Fries
National French Fry Day!
July 13th is National French Fry Day!
It should be GLOBAL French Fry Day, because French Fries are not only devoured in the USA.
The french could have Pommes Frites Day. The Spanish could have Patatas Fritas Day, and the English can celebrate with a serving of good old fashioned "chips."
No matter what you call them, or where you eat them, it remains a fact that French Fries are well loved by many.
And, what better day to make my favorite french fry dish than on National French Fry Day!

The French Fry
Fries have become a common side dish. They are served with hamburgers and hotdogs, or with fish and even steak. They can even be prepared as a meal of their own!
There are a lot of different kinds of french fries in the world. It is funny that I have never really thought about it before.
You have steak fries, and crinkle cut fries. There are shoestring fries and curly fries. There are waffle fries and potato wedges. You can have french fries with the skin still on, or perfectly peeled potato slices.
You also have the option of buying french fries frozen and ready to go, or buying potatoes and making your own french fries at home.
I usually go the latter route. Its not too hard to peel and slice a potato, and fry it to perfection.
Or, to slice it anyway. The perfection part of it was a little harder to master. At least until I found the Perfect Fries french fry slicer!

Perfect Fries - One Step French Fry Cutter
I have always had some issues when it came to turning poatoes into french fries. The biggest issue is that I kind of like my fries on the skinny side, and I could not cut skinny fries to save my life. Whenever I made french fries they are think and chunky. More like potato nuggets than fries.
That was okay if I just wanted some fried potato, but those chunky french fries just would not work for my chilli cheese fries!
On a whim I bought the Perfect Fries One Step French Fry Cutter.
It's funny, because I am usually the person mocking the sillyness of any "As Seen On TV" items. Not in this case. I absolutely LOVE this product. It really does make the perfect fries for me.
I absolutely LOVE this product! I get the skinny fries I want every time, and it takes very little effort!
Chilli Cheese Fries
Chilli Cheese Fries is a meal treat. I love it, but don't often eat it becuase it's not one of those healthy good for you meals.
When I am in the mood for it though, it is easy to whip up.
All it takes is a few ingredients that most people probably already have in their kitchens
and, of course
The Fry Daddy
Fries can be made a bit more healthy by cooking them in the oven.
I'm old fasioned though. If I'm gonna eat fries they may as well be drowned in oil first. So I always deep fry my fries.
My husband is a fry fiend (he eats more than me) and also prefers to deep fry his fries. So we have a Fray Daddy Electric Deep Fryer in our kitchen. Nothing but French Fries are ever cooked in it, and it NEVER leave the counter.
Our Fry Daddy is used ONLY for french fries, but there are so many deep fryable options you could try with one of these in your kitchen!
My Yummy Chilli Cheese Fries
Don't these look just good enough to eat?
They may not be "gourmet" but they are quick and easy food that is good to the tummy!
This is a quick and easy meal to make.
It helps to have some items pre-cooked and ready. I usually have some cooked ground beef and/or sausage in the fridge to go onto pizza or into other recipes, so it was already there, and this recipe was build around those items already being done.
Total Time: 30-45 min
- 1/2 cup ground sausage (browned and drained)
- 1/2 cup ground beef (browned and drained)
- 1 can (10 oz) of hot dog chilli
- 1 large potato cut into fries (or one serving frozen french fries)
- 1/2 cup cheese (or or less to taste)
- ranch dressing
- 1. Prepare fries to your liking. I prefer to fry mine in a deep fryer, but oven fries woudl work too.
- 2. While your freench fries are cooking, combine your pre-cook sausage, pre-cooked hamburger meat, and your can of hot dog chilli in a small sauce pan. Heat until chilli is hot.
- 3. Place your fries in the center of your place.
- 4. Cover with as much of the chilli sauce as you like.
- 5. Sprinkle cheese on top of sauce while still hot (so cheese will melt)
- 6. Drizzle ranch dressing over the whole thing.
- 7. Eat and Enjoy
