Nutella Cookies ... NOT just for Hipsters Anymore

Updated on November 22, 2014

A Cookie with a Simple Desire to Standout among the Rest

So you may be thinking to yourself ... YUM, Nutella Cookies ... very interesting OR if you are more like me, you would be curling your lip up in displeasure at this moment. Because , I am not a very big fan of Nutella simply because Hazelnuts are not my thing.

However, let me begin by telling you a little story about how Nutella and these Nutella Cookies became a mainstay in our home and have changed my feelings about Nutella forever.

One weekend my daughter came home from school with some burning desire to totally destroy my kitchen. YES, she wanted to bake. Now she really excels at the baking end of things, however the cleaning up part is definitely not her best skill set nor is it on her list of important priorities. Through her many hours of perusing the web, rather than studying something important, she came upon a picture of what she thought to be the most perfect cookie. A blending of all of her favorite things, peanut butter, sugar and NUTELLA. This image which I am sure you have figured out was a plate of some fabulous looking Nutella Cookies which she absolutely had to create.

Just to back up a bit, you see my hipster daughter absolutely loves Nutella. She slathers the stuff on everything from bananas to potato chips and everything in between.

So you see her discovery of this particular cookie was a ginormous moment in her life.

And the saga continues...

To continue along with this long and drawn out story, my Nutella loving daughter ended up making over 6 dozen of these cookies to take back to school and share with her friends. However, when the family got a whiff of these babies coming out of the oven, we were all over those suckers like flies to horse *bleep*. They were so delicious and better then any ordinary "peanut butter cookie".

The Nutella actually enhanced the cookies flavor and turned that cookie into "OMG" the most fabulous chocolate peanut butter cookie I have ever tasted. Needless to say, she only went back to school with a dozen or so.

What is Nutella?

Nutella is a Chocolate Hazlenut Spread. The consistency is similair to peanut butter. You can slather it on Banana's, Crackers or maybe some toast. The possibilities are endless.

Nutella Cookies
Nutella Cookies

These are the ones! That fabulous Nutella Cookie, I have been telling you about.

One thing to note you have two options when adding the Nutella. You can swirl it in the way I have indicated in the directions. Which will give you a cool swirly appearance for your cookie. Or you can just mix in the Nutella with the rest of the batter. This is gives your cookie a darker, richer more chocolately looking cookie. Other than the look, it will not affect the delicious taste of these "melt in your mouth" Nutella Cookies .

The choice is yours.

  • 1 cup butter room temperature (2 Sticks)
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 2/3 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup Nutella

  1. Beat the butter and peanut butter until smooth and mixed. Beat in White and Brown Sugars. Than add eggs, one at a time and vanilla. Cream the ingredients until velvety smooth.
  2. Add the Flour, Baking Soda and Salt and mix thoroughly.
  3. Add Nutella in spoonfuls over the top of the dough. Use a knife or something similar to slice the Nutella through the dough. Don't mix it in completely, the stripes are what make them pretty! Or if you prefer, you can mix the nutella right into the dough for a darker looking cookie.
  4. Chill the dough in fridge for 15-30 minutes.
  5. Spoon drops of dough onto a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Watch for edges to turn slightly brown and remove promptly.
  7. Cool on a rack and Serve.
  8. YUM! Makes approximately 3 dozen fabulous Nutella Cookies.
  9. Make some today and Enjoy!

Kitchen Aide Stand Mixer - Simply the BEST!

I have owned a KitchenAid Stand Mixer for well over 20 years. It's an oldie but still going strong. I have it in boring white because, well quite frankly that is all they made back then. Now this Mixer comes in the coolest colors and so many attachments are available to do just about anything. I have been trying to convince my hubby that we should get another. You know, like an upgrade. But, basically until this baby breaks I will have to endure white. And the way it looks, this could be a really long time.

What's up with that Hipster thing?

Hipster and Nutella go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly

Apparently, Nutella is the National Food of Hipsters.

As odd as it sounds, it's true. For some reason, it is one of those foods all Hipsters love. As a matter of fact, I don't think you can be a hipster if you don't like Nutella.

Nutella... Yay or Nay!

Well I must say that since my introduction to these Nutella cookies, I now have joined the ranks of Nutella Lover. It's actually pretty tasty on quite a few things. And I was surprised that I really like it so much, hazelnuts and all. I guess my kid was able to teach this OLD Dog some NEW tricks after all.

So what do you think about Nutella and have you ever had the opportunity to sink your teeth into Nutella Cookies ?

Hipsters annoy me. I stockpile Nutella to spite them. I would do this with other items as well, however I find it difficult to make amazing ice cream with ugly sweaters or outdated technology.
