Old Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake

It's Strawberry Season!

When I was growing up we had a "huge" strawberry patch. I loved when the strawberries were ripe and my mom would make this shortcake recipe and we would have strawberry shortcake. The recipe is actually my grandmother's which makes it all the more special! I hope you enjoy it!


  • 2 -1/4 cup flour
  • 4 -1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 -1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter - melted
  • 1 egg - beaten
  • 2/3 c. milk (add more as needed)


  1. Mix all dry ingredients together. Mix all liquid ingredients together. Mix liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients. If there is still dry ingredients that are not mixed in, add more milk. Batter should be stiff. Spray muffin tins. Fill muffin tins 2/3 full with batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 - 30 minutes. Should be a golden brown when cooked.

Strawberries for Your Shortcake

  • Strawberries
  • Sugar


  1. Take stems and leaves off strawberries. Wash gently. Cut strawberries in half. Place into bowl. Sprinkle sugar over strawberries. Gently "mash" strawberries with fork or potato masher. Let sit 30 minutes for strawberry juices to mesh with sugar. Drizzle over shortcake & enjoy!
