How My Collection of Paleo Cookbooks Help Me Stay Healthy

Cookbooks for Culinary Variety
Yesterday, I decided on a simple breakfast which consisted of sliced avocados, sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil. A handful of raw almonds and a tall glass of freshly-squeezed lemon water completed my meal. Like life itself, sometimes the simplest things can be oh so satisfying.
Naturally there are days when something a bit more substantial and for those days, I turn to my arsenal of cookbooks. And although I must admit that I don't adhere strictly to a Paleo lifestyle, I feel a whole lot better eating this way.
Ever since losing half my weight many years ago, I've been naturally drawn to "clean" and natural ingredients. I love to eat good food and there's nothing more relaxing to me than spending an entire day in the kitchen cooking up a storm, which is why my shelves are spilling over with cookbooks.
If you're currently living the Paleo lifestyle, you probably know that variety is key to sticking to this heathier eating plan long term. So it only makes sense that having a proper collection of Paleo cookbooks will only make your life easier and definitely tastier.
To get you started, I've also included a few of my awesome Paleo recipes, including my very famous gluten-free brownies.

Practical Paleo includes information on healthy living, delicious recipes and answers to all your questions about how the Paleo lifestyle can benefit you and your family.

Pancakes and Other Breakfast Goodies

I have a love affair with pancakes so when I learned that anything made with flour wasn't allowed on a low-carb or Paleo diet, I was devastated to say the least. However once I learned how to make them using almond flour, I no longer had to deprive myself of this yummy breakfast option.
Alternatives such as almond and coconut flours make baking all your favorites possible including these delicious pancakes I recently made. I enjoyed them with a drizzle of real maple syrup and I was in heaven. Not only are they delicious, but they are quite filling due to the nut flours, which are usually heavier to begin with.
There are many good Paleo cookbooks for those who love to bake. Baking with these alternative flours is easy as pie. The hard part is choosing which cookbooks are worth buying.
Not Your Ordinary Paleo Breakfast

Pancakes for breakfast on the Paleo Diet? How about some scones or sweet donuts for breakfast? Yes, yes and yes! Includes 30 breakfast dishes including savory ones made from vegetables, sausage and eggs. Breakfast is probably my favorite part of the day so this book immediately caught my attention. My personal favorite were the Lavender Scones, which were simply some of the best baked goods I've had on the planet.
A Delicious Thai Curry Recipe

Thai Green Curry
Thai-style Green Curry is one of the most delicious inventions in culinary history and surprisingly, most Thai green curry pastes are Paleo. Of course you could try and make your own curry from scratch, but who has the time and energy to look for these foreign ingredients?
Instead I use ready-made curry paste from Thai Kitchen. It's pretty tasty and completely Paleo.
A Paleo-Friendly Curry Paste

Although some people prefer more spice, I find that Thai Kitchen's version has the perfect level of spiciness as you can always add more chili peppers later on, especially helpful for families with children who can't tolerate too much heat.
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless chicken, diced into bite-sized pieces
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 cup mushroom, sliced
- 1 can coconut milk
- 1/3 cup chicken stock
- 4 tablespoons green curry paste
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce or to taste
Instructions
- Mix the coconut milk, stock, fish sauce and green curry paste in medium saucepan.
- Bring it to boil. Reduce heat to low.
- Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add in the vegetables and chicken.
- Simmer for 10 more minutes or until chicken is cooked.

Must-Have Paleo Cookbooks
It's easy to stick to a new and healthier eating regimen when you keep things interesting for your taste buds, and the best way to do that is to arm yourself with a collection of cookbooks. Without them, I'd probably be eating eggs for breakfast every morning.

This book is made for people who love to eat ( that's me! ) and includes delicious recipes made with zero grains, legumes, soy, sugar, dairy or alcohol. Do You Eat For Health?
Do you strive to become healthier through the food you eat?

Give Me My Brownies!
As I've mentioned before, desserts have always been my downfall and has kept me overweight for half of my life. Now that I have the tools to make healthier versions of my sweet favorites, I can literally have my cake and eat it too.
Paleo desserts can taste just as good as the traditionally-made ones, such as my famous Gluten-Free Brownies. OK, they're not actually famous around the world, but my friends devour them! If you're a fan of brownies, you'll love these squares of moist and chocolatey decadence. In fact, they're so good, I bet you can't stop at just one!

Paleo Dessert Cookbooks
As far as I'm concerned, a meal is never complete without a proper dessert. The great thing about Paleo cookbooks is that they can be used by anyone, even those who aren't necessarily practicing the lifestyle. It's really quite simple. Paleo recipes are great for anyone wanting to eat healthier by limiting their sugar and refined grain intake.
Death By Chocolate
Yes, that's right. If you find my dead on a weekend morning, it's most likely to be from an overdose of chocolate. I admit I'm kind of a chocoholic and a life without chocolate is like living without air.
So it's truly a wonderful thing to find out that chocolate is not only Paleo-friendly, dark chocolate is especially healthy when eaten in moderation. So if you're a chocolate lover like me, you'll be glad for the selection of cookbooks available today.
For a chocolate lover like myself, discovering this cookbook was like finding buried treasure. Every recipe I've tried has turned out absolutely delightful, especially the Lava Cakes, which are to die for.
You Can Have Your Muffins Too
When I was strictly on a low-carbohydrate diet ( many years ago ), anything bread-related was off limits. This included all those delectable treats such as muffins, scones and cookies.
Thanks for new types of flours available today, we no longer have to deprive ourselves of these baked goods.
Changing to a Paleo lifestyle isn't about restricting yourself from the foods you love. This book helps you indulge in old favorites like pancakes, muffins and even a 1-minute cake.
Are you currently on a Paleo eating plan? Low-carbing instead? What kind of dietary changes have you made to improve your health? Please feel free to leave your comments.

Shinichi, your commitment to eating healthfully and your successful weight loss are inspiring! I started eating 85-90% clean several months ago and am 9.5 pounds lighter and feeling better and more energetic than I have in a long time. Like you, I love discovering and creating healthy, nutritious recipes that also feed my inner foodie. :) Thanks for this terrific collection of Paleo cookbooks!
Thanks for explaining this Paleo eating plan, I didn't really understand what it was all about before reading this. The cookbook reviews are excellent, as are the included recipes!
I had a much different breakfast planned for this morning, but after reading the way you described yours, I'm off to hunt down some almonds and avocados instead!
I know a couple who eat Paleo most of the time and both thrive on it. They've been trying some really amazing recipes, too. Nothing to be bored about when Paleo's in the house!

The paleo diet is new to me but since I've started it I feel so much better. I used to get headaches fairly frequently and these have now gone completely!! I don't miss sugar or refined foods even a little bit now - it's a mental addiction not a physical one!!
I have a love for pancakes too ... have to see where I can get almond flour. All your recipes look so good and the best thing about them is that they are healthy.
I am trying really hard to change my diet, and found this lens helpful and inspiring. I'm not sure paleo is the right route for me... but I continue to investigate it
I've looked at going Paleo, but felt intimidated by it. Your lens make it seem not so scary. I shared your lens with our G+ group today.
I have just heard about paleo here.
I don't know anything about it but i believe it could be great for me since I have an autoimmune syndrome and I don't want to rely on medicine only.
Great lens! I'm trying to heat healthier foods. Paleo seems easier for me to follow than going vegan. I'm a midwestern meat and potatoes type of gal.
Very interesting to read
I've been eating Paleo for over a year now, mostly going by advice from Dr. Chris Kresser. I have his book, Your Personal Paleo Code. I've made drastic changes to how I eat in the past couple of years - such as eliminating sugar, eliminating wheat (due to being sensitive to gluten), eliminating MSG and trans fat, and drinking only water. I buy organic as much as I can.
I love all your articles Shinichi, I am very interested in various eating habits and diets, however, in our family we never been too strict with diets. We try to eat balanced and we cook traditional foods. Sugar is a problem, I have to admit, but occasionally we eliminate it temporary from our diet, after which we get back to it.
You are an inspiration smine and I will definitely be enjoying the recipes that you have so graciously shared along with your advice. I enjoy all your recipes, tips, and photos. You bring good food to life.
Wonderful article! Love the way it's done. The fact that you've succeeded with it makes it that much more interesting and encouraging. Looks like I will have to give Paleo a try. Thanks for putting this together Smine27, and sharing it with us. Can't wait to try the brownies.
Paleo is the way to go!
I'm not on the paleo eating plan, but it looks so wonderful I want to be!
