Happy Pita filling!

Falafel in pita bread

Falafel, salad and tahini

This is a great pitta sandwich idea, very traditional and healthy

Fresh falafel balls (you can buy these frozen or try making your own)

Fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber (you can add other ingredients of your choice)

Tahini sauce

Fresh Pita bread!

Falafel is made from crushed chickpeas, made into the shape of a ball and lightly fried. You can fill your pitta bread with a few falafel balls, add fresh tomatoes and lettuce and pour some tahini (sesame sauce) on top. It make for a delicious pita bread sandwich and is a classic vegetarian pitta bread filling. Falafel is very nutritious and fills you up for hours.

Lamb meatballs

We made this pita filling at a recent event we had and it was a great hit!

good quality lamb meatballs, made with the seasoning of your choice (garlic, onion and spices are always good)

fresh ripe tomatoes

bunch of fresh parsley

tahini sauce

Fresh Pita bread!

This can work with any type of red meat, but I personally love the flavour of a good quality lamb meat to make the meatballs. Make sure the lamb balls are freshly made when you want to fill your pitta breads and add some slices of fresh ripe tomatoes and a sprig of parsley on top for extra colour. Tahini (sesame sauce) goes very well with this filling although you could use any other sauce you like.

Hot Pita bread with butter

the ultimate comfort food!

ok, so this one might not sound that healthy but it is quite simply divine! Pop your pitta bread in the toaster or have it hot and fresh from the oven and spread lashings of butter on the inside. Watch how it melts and tuck in! For even more comfort add a few lashings of philadelphia cheese...yum!

Pita with smoked salmon

Smoked salmon

Cream Cheese

Mixed Leaves

This pita bread filling is really unique. The combination of the salmon and the avocado make it really tasty. Use this filling to make mini pita canapes at a drinks party!

Vegetable Stir Fry with Herb sauce

A great vegetarian pita bread filling

Courgettes (zucchinis)

Fry up all your vegetables in some olive oil and season.

For the herb sauce:

Balsamic Vinegar

Mix your mustard and vinegar well and use as a topping to pour on top.

This is a fantastic vegetarian pitta bread sandwich and the ingredients can be adapted to suit what vegetables are in season. The vegetables release some nices juices which make it a great option for stuffing in pitta.

Coronation pita bread sandwich

nice and spicy!

This pita filling can be made with vegetables or with chicken, whichever you prefer.

You will need:

Boiled eggs

Mayonnaise mixed with curry powder

and Chives

Mix it all together and if you want to add boiled or friend chicken slices do so. You will find this sandwich nice and filling and the curry and raisins give it an extra special flavour.

Cheesy crunch pitta bread sandwich

A sophisticated option

brie or some other kind of strong tasting cheese

slices of crunchy celery

Mixed herbs and lettuce leafs

This combination works very well inside a pita bread. The mixture of flavours of the strong cheese and celery is really special. Again, you can personalise this one depending on what cheese you have available. Mix and match and have fun!

Chicken Shnitzel Pitta bread sandwich

Don´t you just love chicken shnitzel?! I'll bet you have never thought of putting one inside a pitta bread!

This pitta bread sandwich is absolutely delicious all you need is:

a nicely cooked chicken shnitzel (that's chicken in breadcrumbs)

some salad, your favourite combination of lettuce leaves and tomatoes.

some mayonnaise

open up your pitta bread and fill it up nicely - awesomely delicious!

Pitta bread with turkey and coleslaw

A lunchtime favourite

This pita bread filling idea is great to prepare a sandwich for kids to take to school. All you need is some cold turkey slices and some coleslaw to make a very very tasty lunch! It's so easy to put together and your kids will love it! You can add lettuce leaves and tomatoes too if you like.

Try Pita bread with dips

Some of the dips you can try with pita bread

A marriage made in pita bread heaven: Pitta bread and hummus.

If you don't know hummus then you don't know what you are missing. This divine dip or paste made from crushed chickpeas is not only healthy but also extremely tasty, and is at its very best when served with pita bread.

The reign of the Aubergine: Babaganoosh.

If you are from the other side of the atlantic then you probably call aubergines eggplants, but whatever you want to call them I'm sure you will love this wholesome dip made from grilled aubergines and either mayonnaise or tahini.

Fishy and Pink: Taramosalata.

This dip is made from fish eggs and is surprisingly tasty. It has a smooth flavour which is not too overpowering and which works extremely well with fresh pita bread.

Yoghurt and cucumber: Tzatziki.

This fresh dip is very easy to make. Mix natural yoghurt with some thin sliced of cucumber, garlic and a sprinkling of oregano and it's ready! You can adapt how much of each ingredient you want to include till you think it's absolutely perfect. Try serving with some warm or toasted pitta bread.

Solo Tahini.

If you like tahini, and I personally love it, you will love dipping your pitta bread into it and eating it solo. You should be able to buy tahini at any good international food store, remember you usually have to mix it up with water and lemon juice before it is ready to it - so read the instructions .

I love Tzatziki, it is also particularly nice with lamb. The fresh and cool taste of yoghurt and cucumber over lamb is divine. Great Lens.

Yuuuuummy lens. :) I like falafel on my pita. It's also great dipped in hummus and enjoy a hummus and tabouleh wrap. Another treat is to roll it up with a banana, peanut butter, and a bit of honey!
