Easy Homemade Pizza Rolls
Making Homemade Pizza Rolls Is Easy!
Everyone loves pizza rolls!
They're practically a staple for teenagers, and great for parties and snacks. Homemade pizza rolls are super easy to make and taste way better than the frozen supermarket ones.
Homemade pizza rolls give you the ability to control what goes into them, so no nasty preservatives or mystery meat. They also make an impressive appetizer, perfect for football parties or any occassion.
How To Make Pizza Roll Filling
First you have to decide what ingredients you want in your pizza rolls.
I like to make a basic combination style pizza roll, So first I fry up about 2 pounds of Itaian sausage and drain out the grease.
Then I add about a cup of diced pepperoni, a small diced onion and about 1/2 of a cup of diced green & red bell peppers.
Then I add about a teaspoon of diced garlic, and sprinkle in basil, oregano and Italian herbs mix. I also add some fennel seed and red pepper flakes because we like it kind of spicy and sweet. Also salt and pepper to taste.
Next I mix in a can of pizza sauce and 1 teaspoon of sugar, and let it all simmer until it's all nice and thick. You don't want to try to use runny filling in pizza rolls or you'll end up with a big mess. I add the sugar because it reduces the acidity of the tomato sauce and the garlic, and helps prevent heartburn.
Some Things You Might Need
Cool Filling Before Adding Cheese
Next I transfer the filling into a big bowl, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until completely cool.
You want to make sure your filling is cooled all the way or the cheese will melt and make a big gooey mess.
After the filling is completely cooled, add about a cup of grated parmesan cheese. I just use the cheap kind that comes in a plastic shaker and is like powder. This helps absorb excess moisture and flavors the sauce.
Mix Cheese In Thoroughly
Next it's time to add the shredded mozzarella cheese.
You can add as little or as much as you like. We like a meatier pizza roll, so I add about 2-3 cups. If you like a cheesier roll, just add more.
Be sure to really mix the cheese in thoroughly, so you don't end up with cheese or meat clumps. You want to taste a little bit of everything in every bite.
Need A Deep Fryer?
I love this fryer!
Finished Pizza Roll Filling
Your finished pizza roll filling should be nice and thick.
To make vegetarian pizza rolls all you have to do is saute the veggies like mushrooms, onions and peppers, to remove excess moisture, then let cool completely. Then mix your cooled veggies with pizza sauce, and cheese until you have a nice thick filling.
For plain cheese filling, start with lots of shredded cheese then add sauce gradually while mixing until cheese is just lightly coated in sauce.

Time To Roll!
Rolling up your pizza rolls is as easy as rolling an egg roll, except you will be using Won Ton wraps.
I like to just keep the filling in the fridge and just roll them right before we eat them. They make a quick and easy snack or meal.
For parties or to freeze them, I will often roll up a whole batch at once and then par-fry them. Then they won't stick together and are easy to freeze or fry completely later.
