Reusable Coffee Cups - Eco Friendly

Updated on December 5, 2014

Looking for the best eco friendly reusable coffee cup in the world - in my humble opinion

When my youngest child was doing a huge project at school on recycling and renewable energies he was keen to make sure our family were contributing to save the planet. LIke most people we do our "bit" for the environment. We recycle bottles, jars, newspapers and paper carrier bags, we re-use plastic bags, we collect rainwater for the garden and we have a compost heap. Sometimes I feel as if I'm the only person in the world doing all of this, I know I'm not, and try not to begrudge the time spent doing it too much.

Give myself a pat on the back I thought to myself, until my young eco-warrior mentioned that it was a terrible waste of resources for me to require a new cup and lid when I bought my morning carry out coffee for the ride to school. Whoa, there I thought. Really you want to deal with Mommy in the morning with out her caffeine fix? I thought I had placated him with the old, "well the shop won't put coffee into a cup that has already been used, health and safety I think".

I could see this was bothering him so we hit upon the idea of doing a search and came up with Keepcup. The colours were attractive enough to entice me, they come in three fab sizes, and he was pleased as I could take my coffee cup to the barista and the barista was happy to fill the cup up to the required size. Usually you get a few cents off the price of the coffee as you are not requiring a paper cup. I get to work, wash the cup and pop it back into my bag until my next visit to the coffee shop.

We had great fun choosing our color and now all of the family have them. Ideal for keeping in the car and funnily enough my little eco-warrior has started asking for me to take him a hot chocolate from home when I pick him up from school every day. Luckily they fit into most in-car cup holders so no-spills for us. On hot days I fill it with ice and water and the water is still cold and refreshing for when he gets picked up

I also had a great experience at work. Someone spotted my cup, asked me about it and soon a large order had gone it for Keepcups for the office. It was a great bonding experience when the cups arrived, comparing sizes and colors.

Keepcups are non toxic and BPA free and a little fact that pleases me is the fact that they are dishwasher safe.

An age old question....Coffee or Tea?

What hot drink do you prefer?

Simple.... what tipple do you prefer?

See results

Help the environment, get Keepcup. Pick a colour scheme to suit your personality.

Great Stuff on Amazon

I love the various colors that you can buy with KeepCups. Buy one to suit your personality, or buy them for the family and change lids etc around.

For those who like a bit of china around their coffee or tea

Another option for the barista, is a porcelain version. Not only a little more traditional, but also fulfils that professional look when required.

Time for a coffee....

Take a break.....

Thank you for visiting my lens, your comments are appreciated

I haven't had a cup of coffee in nearly two years, but I whole-heartedly support the reusable coffee cups theme.

I am always so happy to meet another ordinary person who is doing her bit, as you say, for the environment and planet our children will inherit. I know exactly what you mean when you say that sometimes you feel like you are the only one. Just the other day, I asked folks on one of the Squidoo Facebook groups if they had any "green" lenses to share, as I was compiling a list. Sadly, I did not get a single response, though I know they are out there. This one will go on my list for sure. Thanks for sharing your story!

Great idea. We throw away so much stuff that we don't need to. Good alternative to more in landfill.

That's a great idea! I've been saving my paper Starbucks cups to plant seeds in but I think your idea is much more Eco friendly.

      Thanks, Daniel :)

Great idea! I usually try to get re-usable bottles (for water) that have a bigger mouth so it's easier to clean. This is a wonderful suggestion for coffee (or tea). May get one for my mom.

My favorite is the Starbucks world mug; they don't carry them these days, so the baristas have no trouble remembering my drink because the mug is so memorable!

These KeepCups may be the answer I am looking for. Have had a hard time finding travel coffee cups that fit under my Keurig Mini. The ones I did find where not insulated and get too hot to hold. These may do.

I started using a refillable cup about 20 years ago and have quite a collection now. I like the stylish new refillable cups and mugs you selected for this lens. I may need to get myself a hip and colorful Keep Cup.
