Looking for simple tea kettles ?

Updated on January 15, 2015

A simple tea kettle is hard to find.

In need for a simple tea kettle ? A simple tea kettle is hard to find nowadays. Everybody seems to use electric water heaters. Yesterday I went out to find a simple tea kettle, you know the one for a gas stove. The one that whistles. My demands where not high, it didn't need to be a super duper high-teck tea kettle a simple iron kettle would do.

But surprisingly enough it was not easy to find a good old fashioned hot water kettle. Apparently they where classified as lower cast kitchen suppliants!!! Well, I took it as a challenge to find a good and simple tea kettle and I want to share the results of my tea kettle quest here with you.

Hot water kettles

where can I find a simple tea kettle, do they still exist !!

The reason why I was looking for a basic tea kettle has to do with the fact that we run a Bed an Breakfast called Los Gatos (the cats) near Valenia,Spain.

And because were living off the grid and our energy supply comes from solar panels we try to avoid electrical things. So an electrical water cooker is a no go in our household.

But we want to offer our guest I nice hot cup o tea when they come back from a trip in the countryside. So that's why we went for a good old fashioned tea kettle. But we found out that it was not an easy task, apparently electrical water cookers have conquered the world and are pushing the hot water kettles aside !!! It turns out to be that the old fashioned tea kettle is on the brink of extinction...

We can not let this happen can we ?

So let's take a look what kind of tea kettles are there still to be found on line.

Let the quest begin.

Now, sometimes yo want something classy,sexy, top of the bill and top notch. That's fine and you can enjoy those designer tables and chairs, I do too. But there are moments you simply want to buy an ordinary, simple peace of kitchenware. For me a simple honest tea kettle is the best there is. Durable and trustworthy. No bells and whistles...well whistles yes, a tea kettle without any whistle won't be good, would it ?

So here they are, some simple teakettles.

The Tea kettle poll

To me a teakettle needs to be .....

In the simplicity you find beauty. Tea, tranquility and beauty are all in the spirit of the zen tea ceremony. Boiling water to me still is the best when I use a kettle, instead of an electric hot water boiler.

Water is the most refreshing thing on earth. Using pure natural ingredients like lemon verbena makes tea not only clean your mind but your body too. Simply to give yourself time to drink a cup of tea makes your mind at ease. Tea helps you to get that tranquility and the whole ceremony starts with boiling the water in a simple basic tea kettle.

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

Boilin hot water and what all not...
Boilin hot water and what all not...

WITCH 1. Round about the caldron go;

In the poison'd entrails throw.-

Toad, that under cold stone,

Days and nights has thirty-one;

Swelter'd venom sleeping got,

Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!

ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

WITCH 2. Fillet of a fenny snake,

In the caldron boil and bake;

Eye of newt, and toe of frog,

Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,

Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,

Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,-

For a charm of powerful trouble,

Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

WITCH 3. Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;

Witches' mummy; maw and gulf

Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;

Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;

Liver of blaspheming Jew;

Gall of goat, and slips of yew

Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;

Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;

Finger of birth-strangled babe

Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,-

Make the gruel thick and slab:

Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,

For the ingredients of our caldron.

ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

WITCH 2. Cool it with a baboon's blood,

Then the charm is firm and good.

Act IV, Scene 1 from Macbeth (1606) by William Shakespeare

Don't worry about politics at the moment, just put the kettle on, write a little commend, this is always appreciated and enjoy your cup of tea.

      I had considered a non-electric kettle, as finding good quality all-metal stove-top kettles is much easier than an equivalent electric kettle without plastic touching either the hot water or the steam. If I had a gas stove, I may have bought one!

      I like to admire the teapot I use to boil my tea water. The simplest kettles do seem to be the very best and most beautiful of design.
