Finding Places to Eat in or near Poinciana, Florida

It always comes up when you meet new Solivita residents. "Where's a good place to eat?" This starts a lively discussion as Solivitans recommend their favorite restaurants. Eating out is a favorite entertainment for retirees and it's true of Solivita retirees too.

Below are some restaurants recommended by Solviita residents. I'll keep adding to this as people suggest new eating places. Check back to see what new dining spots we've found.

Solivita is an active retirement community in Poinciana, Florida. It is located south of Kissimmee in Central Florida.

Review of Smokey's Supper Club

Kathy Stutzman loved the place. Here's her review, "After reading and hearing the rave reviews, we decided to go there tonight. I am so glad we did! We had our 3 course meal within 20 minutes. The entrees were cooked perfectly! Meat loaf, homemade mashed potatoes, fried fish, and French fries. I had to get a take out box. The service was the best we have experienced in years by a young girl who actually called us ma'am and sir. She checked our glass water levels several times, asked if we needed more bread and salad dressing, and offered to bring butter in a small bowl when Mike had trouble opening the foil-wrapped butter patty. She came after we had some time to try our food and asked if it was satisfactory. You bet! She stayed on top of things. The food cost less than Harborside and tasted better. We also got bigger portions. And to top it off...we had a pianist playing softly during the entire time. What a great time! This is a do not miss restaurant!"

New Restaurant Discovery for Poinciana Residents - Have You Tried MeMa's Yet?

"We found a new restaurant. It is called MeMa's and it is 2 miles right on Southport Road from the light on Cyrpress Pkwy. It makes Cherry Pockets look like The Grand Floridian but I defy anyone to tell me when or where they have had better ribs!!!!. Full rack $22 1/2 rack $12. They are only open for a couple of months during the auction of the trucks etc. We were there by accident last year at this time and followed them for a year on FB to find out when they are opening."

Thanks, Sunny D., for sharing this restaurant with us.

Pazza Luna Now Open -

On Jun 18, 2010, bbchem wrote:

I passed by today and saw the sign in the window was open! I guess its true it really is open now. We need to go and support, its the first of what could be more if people see they can make a living. Their food is terrific, nice new place as well. On Pleasant hill on the left about 6 miles down where the Tag Auto is now.

Today was the first day Pazza Luna was open for lunch. It was also our first time to eat there. I had the chicken parmigiana and my wife had the jumbo shrimp francaise (isn't jumbo shrimp an oxymoron?). Both meals were very good and came with excellent garlic rolls. The lunch prices are very reasonable. Both lunchs, a coke, and cannolis were under $20.

They will be open for lunch Tuesday - Sunday from 11 -2. They are accepting cash only at the present time until their credit machine is up and running.

7/8/10 - We had a party of 21 who ate there a week ago and the food was all served at the same time and excellent and hot. We had no complaints whatsoever. I highly recommend everyone going there.... with or without the 15% discount. the portions were huge and I ate my other half for dinner the next night. Barb P. of Solivita

7/8/10 - I have been there twice and it has been wonderful. They have their coffee situation ironed out and they now have dessert. (great cannoli's ). Donna of Solivita

Review of Saigon Harbor Vietnamese Cuisine

Pat Schmid from Solivita - "I am so surprised that no one else has spoke, or written, about this great restaurant on Main Street, Kissimmee - SAIGON HARBOR Vietnamese Cuisine. What a fabulous atmosphere! The owner and her staff are so friendly and accommodating. The dinner we had was outstanding; we started off with a bucket of raw oysters, and a dozen frogs legs. After appetizers, we shared two entrees; the husbands had 3 beers each. The total of our evening was less than $60.00. We have discovered a wonderful new place to eat, with outrageous food, friendly service and so close to home."

Other Restaurants Recommended by Solivita Residents - Not Too Far Away

"We found a little restaurant worth a stop. Nick's Diner, is a small family run eatery on Hwy 27 about 1/2 mile south of Posner Park on the right hand of the road when heading north. It is in the middle of a small strip shopping center. This is in the Deer Creek area.

They serve breakfast and lunch daily. Good food and good prices. On Fridays they do a Fish Fry from 2-7 pm. This is the only day they are open after lunch. Their fish & chips is very nice-north Atlantic flounder. You can order the fish fried or grilled. They also have chowder, clam cakes and other seafood items as available.

We've had breakfast and the Fish Fry and found both to be good." Nancy of Solivita

"We absolutely love Gaylords Palms....(a bit of a trip but well worth it). The atmosphere is great and the food even better. Casual dress but upscale is buffet style...with coconut shrimp and prime rib carving station, being our favorites...their salad barS are wonderful!! They stamp a voucher/receipt for you don't pay." Barbara and Tony of Solivita

Here's what Margo, a Solivita resident, says of The Hotel in Davenport - "Last night a group of residents went to THE HOTEL in Davenport for dinner. It is a small restaurant with GREAT food. From the outside it isn't fancy but all the food & fabulous desserts are freshly made. It is close (no traffic) and owners are very friendly. Only opened Tuesday nights (Southern Table - family style) and Friday nights (Steak night - they melt in your mouth!) for dinner.. They are also opened for breakfast and lunch - but now you may need a reservation. 301 West Maple Ave - 863-421-0827."

Try the Port at the end of Lake Hatchinea. It is been open for a month or so and the owner was the part owner of Crabby Bills in St Cloud. It is right on the water.Menu is just like Crabby Bills.Seafood is really good.Outside seating also on enclosed porch over the water.
