Super Fast Green Smoothie For Summer
This recipe just came to me as I was thinking of something for a light lunch. I had an aging Organic Grapefruit and wanted to use it up. I also had frozen a sweet pineapple a week or two earlier and it got me thinking about combining the flavors. So I cut up the grapefruit removing the skin pith and pips added a navel orange and about a cup of the sweet pineapple. Half a cup of spinach and a tablespoonful of flax seeds. Then I added a cup of purified water and blended it in my Vitamix blender for 45 seconds on high and the picture is the result.
I apologize for the the glass not being full, but I had to try it before I was ready to share!

What Do You Think?
When I first started making Green Smoothies one of the first things I discovered was that your standard blender will not cut it! Many of the fruits and vegetables that you will be using produce really thick and sticky mulches during the blending process.
Dates are often used as sweeteners and bananas too end up rally thick and sticky. Our kitchen blender when we first made these was an Oster and halfway through my first batch I could smell the motor starting to burn out, and had to stop for 20 minutes or so to let it cool down before trying again.
I next tried our Cuisinart food processor thinking it was a better brand and likely to be much stronger and able to cope. Wrong again! It struggled and could barely turn, I had never seen it in trouble like that before.
My wife and I sat down on our laptops and after a couple of hours research discovered that there are only three blenders consistently up to this task over the longer term and the even more onerous task of making nut butters.
These are Blendtec, an Australian brand (whose name escapes me - not available in the USA) and Vitamix. We decided on the Vitamix and the model below is the one we chose. We could not be more happy with the choice. It is used 2 or 3 times everyday and it is a cinch to clean.
The Best Blender To Buy
This is the exact model blender that I use and highly recommend. It can make peanut butter from the nuts in just one minute it is that powerful and fast.
I am not into diets, but this is definitely a great way to do it if you must.
The Value of the Green Smoothie In A Diet
Personally I am not in to dieting and these should only be undertaken under the specialist care of a qualified doctor and dietician and with the help of experienced trainers. However such are the beneficial effects of the smoothie. It is easier to digest as the blender breaks up the particles of the food so small that the nutrient is easier for the stomach lining to absorb.
Thinking about it babies first solid foods are always blended for that reason so the theory is good. These benefits are one of the main reasons that blenders are so popular that and the fact that they make it easy to get kids to eat their vegetables. They do not see them and often do not even realize they are in the "milk shake".
Finally for the lactose intolerant (all of us actually - to some degree) you can use Almond, Soy, Flax or any other more easily digestible milk. Humans lose lactase the enzyme required to digest cows milk at the age of just 6 months.
Anyway here is the 10 day Green Smoothie cleanse book.
This is a great book and shows why the Smoothie diet is so good for you.
