Sweet Avocado Cream - A Delicious Dessert

Updated on August 10, 2014

A Sweet and Creamy Dessert Adds Richness to Life

I have to admit I was skeptical the first time I tried this dessert. One of my volunteers wanted to treat the office to something special that she had learned from Filipino co-workers many years before. She told me it had avocado in it and even though I love avocado, all I could picture was guacamole or a topping on a sub sandwich. I couldn't imagine a sweet ending.

It was a lesson in being open to new things and new flavors. It was a lesson in trusting those around us to open our eyes to new ways of eating. It was a lesson in the millions of possible combinations of foods and getting outside of my own culinary box. It was... in a word... delicious!!! Better yet, it was ultimately very simple, with only a few ingredients and very little preparation. I hope you like this Sweet Avocado Cream as much as I did (and still do)!

Many of the other versions of this that I've seen online call for the use of a food processor. I, for one, hate to bring out the food processor unnecessarily (read that as "I hate washing all the parts afterwards"), and I also like the chunks of avocado in my dessert. They cut the sweetness and create little creamy mellow oases in my mouth.

That being said, make it to your personal tastes and I will continue to do the same. :)

Cook Time

Total Time: 3-5 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado (see video below to learn more about how to choose a ripe one)
  • 1 14 -oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 5 -6 ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Pour 1/2 the can of sweetened condensed milk into a dish.
  2. Remove rind and pit from avocado and add the "meat" to the bowl of milk.
  3. Use a fork to mash avocado and stir into milk.
  4. When desired consistency is reached, add ice cubes to cool the mixture.
  5. Enjoy!

A Few Other Versions if You Prefer

I'm sharing the recipe I learned, and there are others out there. I like mine because it's so easy. Some of the others have benefits too, such as having more control over individual ingredients, additional flavorings or consistencies.

I've heard of using avocados in desserts, but I haven't tried it yet. I like the way you describe it. I may have to try it sometime.

Wow. How did you know I just bought an avocado yesterday. And the condensed milk is a staple in my cupboard. Ice cubes... no problem. I'm on it!

Yes, of course. I grew up liking this dessert. When avocados are not in season,we used to replace these with the following: ripe papaya, ripe mangoes, bananas, cantaloupes/melons,
