Top sandwich maker recipes!

Sandwiches are a staple item for many people and it is easy to see why when you think about it. There is no doubt about it, sandwiches are nice but if you gently cook them under a grill or on a griddle and turn them in to a toasted sandwich they are great.

There are many advantages associated with toasted sandwiches and it isn't until you take a few minutes out and actually think about it you realise how many there are.

3) Making a toasted sandwich is quick and easy, which is great for hectic modern day life.

The last point, i.e. toasted sandwich recipes, is what this lens is primarily about however there will be other useful toasted sandwich tips and ideas scattered throughout this lens. So, if you are looking for some great toasted sandwich recipes or anything else toasted sandwich related please check out this lens to see if I can inspire you.

1. Cheese toasted sandwich

Cheese toasted sandwich recipes

"A plain cheese toastie. Kind of plain, but oh so tasty".

A cheese toasty is a classic and ideal for all cheese lovers. Thinly slice your favourite cheese, place on the bread and then heat up in the sandwich toaster until the bread is as toasted as you like it. Any cheese can be used in a toasty sandwich so you can use whatever you have in your fridge. It is worth noting that not all cheese will melt and go stringy. I really like stringy cheese therefore I use Red Leicester. If you don't like stringy cheese the ideal cheese to use is feta.

2. Cheese and mixed herbs toasted sandwich recipe

"For something different add some mixed herbs to a cheese toasted sandwich".

Dried mixed herbs work very well in a cheese toasty and are very easy to use. Make the cheese sandwich as normal and then sprinkle on some mixed herbs, such as oregano, rosemary and thyme.

3. Cheese and tomato toasted sandwich recipes

"Cheese and tomato is a good sandwich but an even better toasted sandwich. Give it a go".

Cheese and tomato is a classic Italian combination and works very well in a toasted sandwich. When eating a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich you need to be careful as the tomato will be very hot.

4. Cheese and Worcestershire sauce toasted sandwich recipes

"Add some of this suace to really liven up your cheese toasty".

Worcester sauce has a distinct taste and smell that really livens up a cheese toasted sandwich. Simply place the cheese on a piece of bread, pour on some Worcester sauce, put on the second d piece of bread and then place in the toasty maker. Worcester sauce is a powerful ingredient so make sure you don't add too much and overdo it.

5. Cheese and onion toasted sandwich recipes

"Onions go very well with cheese. I prefer red onions although you can use any onion you want to".

Cheese and onion is another one of the classic tasty sandwich ideas. When making a cheese and onion toasty you can cut the onion any way you like it. Rings, wedges and chunks (although not too thick) and finely chopped all work very well. If you want crispy onions in your toasted sandwich use raw onion. If you want softer onions you should pre cook the onions first. For a sweeter cheese and onion toasted sandwich use red onions instead of standard onions.

6. Cheese and pickle toasted sandwich recipes

"Cheese and pickle - one of my favourite toasted sandwich recipes. Give it a try, you may like it".

Simply add a spreading of Branston pickle to on top of the cheese to make a tasty cheese and pickle sandwich. You need to be careful when eating a cheese and pickle toasted sandwich because the Branston pickle will get exceptionally hot.

7. Cheese and gherkin toasted sandwich recipes

"Thinly slice a gherkin, put in a cheese and sandwich and then lightly toast before devouring".

In my experience, gherkins are either something you really like, or really hate and there is no middle ground. I love gherkins and a cheese and gherkin toasted sandwich is one of my favourites. To make a cheese and gherkin toasted sandwich all you need to do is slice the gherkin in to thin strips, add to the cheese sandwich and then place it in the toasty machine.

8. Cheese and baked bean toasted sandwich recipes

"Add some baked beans to your cheese toasted sandwich. Just make sure you drain the juice off first".

Believe it or not, cheese and baked beans make a tasty toasted sandwich that is filling and nutritious. When using baked beans you need to drain them well to ensure there is not too much juice, as this will make the bread soggy very quickly. If you want a bit of a spicy kick add some chilli powder or cayenne pepper. For something a bit different try adding some mixed herbs, cumin powder or garlic powder (obviously not all at the same time). In fact, you can add a sprinkle of any spice or dried herb you have in the cupboard. The trick here is to be creative and don't be afraid to experiment.

9. Cheese and ham toasted sandwich recipes

"Cheese and ham - the classic toasted sandwich".

Yet another classic combination of sandwich ingredients that works very well in a toasted sandwich. When using ham, or any other meat for that matter, in a toasted sandwich you need to trim the fat. Warm fat in a toasted sandwich is not very nice.

10. Cheese and bacon toasted sandwich recipes

"Bacon is a great alternative to ham. In fact, I would say that bacon is better than ham in toasted sandwiches".

An alternative to ham, and one I think works much better, is bacon. Any bacon can be used in a cheese and bacon toasted sandwich so it doesn't matter whether you are partial to back bacon, streaky bacon, smoked bacon or un-smoked bacon.

11. Cheese and chorizo sausage toasted sandwich recipes

"To give a cheese toasted sandwich a bit of a spicy and smoky kick add some slice chorizo".

Chorizo sausage is nice cold but it is even better hot. What's more, chorizo sausage works very well with cheese. Thinly slice some chorizo, place it between the cheese and the top slice of bread and then put in the toasty maker.

12. Ham toasted sandwich recipes

"A ham toasted sandwich is a bit plain, but a lot of people like it".

As its name suggests, a ham toasted sandwich is nothing more than ham. Personally, I think a ham toasted sandwich is quite boring, however there are many people who disagree with me so I had to include it in my list of top tasty toasted sandwich recipes. If you want to "liven" up a ham toasted sandwich you can add some ketchup, bbq sauce or some mustard.

13. Meatball toasted sandwich recipes

"For all you meat lovers try using some meat balls in a toasted sandwich. They really do work very well".

You can make your own meat balls, although I find that shop bought ones, either canned or frozen, work far better. If you are using frozen meat balls allow them to fully defrost before cutting them in half and then putting in between two slices of bread. A meatball toasted sandwich is nice on its own but it is even better with some grated cheese sprinkled over the top or a squirt of ketchup or bbq sauce.

14. Chilli con carne toasted sandwich recipes

"Chilli con carne is another great filling for a toasted sandwich".

If you have any leftover chilli con carne a great way of using it up is to whack it between two slices of bread and then put it in the toasty maker. A chilli con carne toasted sandwich may sound strange but you really need to try one before you knock it.

15. Sweet chilli prawn toasted sandwich recipes

"For a different toasted sandwich try using some sweet chilli prawns. Ideal for those who like a spicy kick".

Take some shrimps, pour over some sweet chilli sauce, put between two slices of bread and then toast. Alternatively, you can use king prawns or tiger prawns, but pre cook them first. A sweet chilli prawn toasted sandwich is very tasty although you need to be careful because the sweet chilli sauce will get extremely hot.

16. Fish finger toasted sandwich recipes

"Fish finger sandwiches are great, however they are easily improved by putting them in the toasted sandwich maker. Just make sure you take the lettuce out first".

Fish finger sandwiches are nice but fish finger toasted sandwiches are fantastic. It is not possible to take fish fingers out of the freezer and put straight in to the toasty maker, therefore you need to pre cook the fish fingers first. The fish fingers can be grilled or oven baked, it doesn't matter which so take your choice. Once the cooked, lay the fish fingers on the bread and then put it in the toasty maker. If you want to you can add some ketchup, tartare sauce or bbq sauce.

17. Pasta and cheese toasted sandwich recipes

"Spaghetti and cheese makes another great toasted snadwich filling. If you want to give it a bit more flavour try adding some sea salt and black pepper".

For a totally different type of toasty sandwich recipe try a pasta and cheese. Spaghetti and a "stringy" cheese, such as Red Leicester works best for this recipe although you can use any pasta and cheese combination you wish. Simply boil up the spaghetti and drain well. Add a can of tomatoes and a handful of grated cheese and put on a gentle heat to warm up. Once the cheese is melted put the pasta and cheese in a bowl, allow to cool and then put in the fridge for at least three hours. Once the pasta and cheese is nice and chilled it can be used as a toasted sandwich filling.

18. Curry toasted sandwich recipes

"A lovely bowl of curry. If you have any left over don't throw it away. Put it in the fridge, allow the sauce to thicken up during the cooling process and then use it as a toasty filling. Lovely".

Left over curry can also be used as a toasted sandwich filling, although you have to make sure it is not too watery or juicy. To "thicken" the curry up try leaving it in the fridge for twenty four hours, alternatively run it through a sieve and use the "thicker" parts.

19. Beef burger and cheese toasted sandwich recipes

If you're like me whenever you have a BBQ there is always some beef burgers leftover. Rather than throwing these burgers away put them in the fridge ready for a future toastie.

All you need to do to make the toastie is simply cut the cold beef burger so it fits between two slices of bread, sprinkle over some grated cheese and then put in the toasty machine until the bread turns nice and brown. All you need to do is warm the burgers and melt the cheese and not re-cook the burgers therefore they don't have to be cooked for too long.

In my opinion the best appliance to cook toasted sandwiches is a sandwich toaster machine. These machines pinch the sides of the bread together, hence trapping the filling and stopping it from oozing all over the place.

When you use a sandwich toaster it is impossible to burn the bread as the machine doesn't get hot enough. A toasted sandwich made in a sandwich toaster will be cooked to perfection time and time again, unless you like well cooked bread of course.

George Foreman sandwich press

A sandwich press is a great alternative to a sandwich toaster, however it doesn't seal in the filling. A sandwich press will give a toasted sandwich the typical pattern, although this is not a specific reason to buy a sandwich press. THe biggest advantage of a sandwich press is that you can also use it to cook panninis and wraps. You can also use it for grilling meat, such as burgers, sausages and the like.

Another kitchen accessory to cook toasted sandwiches is a griddle. Griddles are not only used for naking toasted sandwiches as they have many other uses. If you use a griddle you need to smear a little oil around the griddle to stop the bread from sticking to it.

Sandwich toaster bags

If you use a conventional oven grill, snadwich press or griddle to cook your toasted sandwiches there is a good chance some of the filling will ooze out and create a mess as it warms up. Stringy cheese in particular is well known for making a mess.

If you want to keep the filling in the toasted sandwich and avoid making a mess you should try a toasted sandwich bag. These re-usable bags are excellent and work very well. What's more, they don't cost a fortune either.
