Tea vs Coffee

Updated on August 24, 2017

Battle of the Brews: Tea versus Coffee

Tea and coffee are the most popular hot drinks in the world, so it's only natural that there's a bit of a rivalry going between the two. When talking about tea, its health benefits are usually mentioned; on the other hand, coffee companies often emphasize the energizing effect that it has. I'm sure you've seen plenty of ads about how antioxidants in the green teas help your body and prevents various illnesses, or how nothing wakes you up in the morning better than a cup of hot coffee. However, let's put all that marketing fluff aside for a bit, and talk about what you prefer! Share your thoughts below.

Health Benefits of Coffee

Everyone has heard about how amazing tea (green in particular) is supposed to be for your health. It might help prevent cancer, combat aging, reduce the "bad" cholesterol levels in your blood, aid in weight loss, and so on... Yada yada.

Poor coffee doesn't get much love in this regard, but that might be about to change. Scientists now think that drinking moderate amounts of this invigorating beverage could ward off dementia and prevent Alzheimer's (source). Take that, tea drinkers! Now us coffee people can also claim that a morning cup of our favorite brew is totally healthy and wholesome.

I drink one or two cups of coffee a day as a change of page from tea. But I fear I've been sabotaging any health benefits by adding soy milk (which binds with the healthful stuff in coffee, limiting absorption).

Good debate - coffee drinkers, have you tried high grade speciality (or specialty - if you are of the other side of the Atlantic to me) teas? I was pretty much converted from coffee and ordinary tea bags (Yorkshire Tea, Tetley Tea etc) but not completely!! A decent organic white tastes gorgeous whilst my favourite - lotus tea - has a fantastic floral taste and aroma. Yum!

i love a good cup of tea at home, but i'm so lazy that the multi-step process of waiting for water to boil, then steeping before i can add honey (or not) and enjoy was a barrier. can you believe it. until i got the keurig and ekobrew reusable cup for christmas. 1 quick step and visit to the kitchen. love the setup so much i just made a new lens on it. :)

It is, of course, purely a matter of taste and nothing to do with one being "better" than the other. I enjoy both - but I do wish some clever person would come up with another hot drink. Look at how many cold drinks there are, but only tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bovril and perhaps one or two more hot drinks !

I enjoy all kinds of teas but I never developed a taste for coffee. My parents and husband drink lots of it but I just don't like it. I do like the way coffee smells when it is brewing but the taste never matches the aroma for me. I know I'm the exception among Americans but I'll stick with tea.

Actually, the scientists shape their research depending on which side finances them, so I prefer not to trust anyone. I actually rarely drink any of these two. Coffee occasionally, but I also enjoy a cup of tea sometimes, though coffee tastes better to me. But ultimately, clean water is above all!!!!! :D
