Fresh fruit is delicious and healthy and it's something my family eats a lot of.. Some types take some extra preparation to be able to eat easily. My son likes apples sliced up and I can't give him cherries until the pits are out. Having the right tools makes preparing his favorites fruits so much easier. Several kitchen stores have began selling new kitchen gadgets that are very useful in preparing different fruits. I have assembled a list of the best chef quality kitchen tools that I have found for under $20 each.

Fresh fruits are everywhere this time of year from your local grocery store to the farmers markets there are an abundance of options. With these kitchen items you will be enjoying fresh fruit all year long.

Sweet Juicy Watermelon Slices

Roadside stands and pickup trucks laden down with huge green watermelons seem to be everywhere this time of year. and my family is sure buying their fair share of them right now..Watermelons are nutritious and low in calories and they are such a good snack on a hot summer day. The only downside to eating watermelon is trying to cut slices with a regular kitchen knife. This ,watermelon knife is the perfect size to cut a watermelon into delicious slices..

Sweet Delicious Cherries

One of my first memories of eating these delicious little fruits was when I was a little girl. My mom had bought a bag of cherries and I popped one into my mouth and almost broke a tooth on the pit inside. I thought it was a grape I guess! I loved to eat cherries but always hated having to eat around the pit. Now cherries are one of my favorite fruits to make desserts with.I love baking and making jams with all types of cherries including Bing cherries and dried cherries Cherry pie is delicious and so is cherry sauce drizzled over vanilla ice cream. They are nutritious and there are many health benefits to eating them. I have a cherry pitter now and this kitchen tool is essential for preparing cherries quickly and easily.

Exotic Pineapple

I use fresh pineapple almost every morning in my juicer. I also like to give my son fruit in the morning as part of his breakfast.Preparing a fresh pineapple can be intimidating so most people just buy it in a can or in the produce department of their local supermarket. Like all fruit pineapple has great nutritional value and is low in calories. With the right tools and some simple instructions on preparation everyone can enjoy fresh pineapple. For instructions on how to cut a pineapple I have included a great article with step by step instructions. The second article contains some easy recipes for pineapple upside down cake.

How Do You Eat Your Pineapple?

Florida Oranges

I drink orange juice everyday.Even though I own a large juicer a small juicer just for citrus fruit makes cleanup time much easier. We eat quite a few oranges too.My husband takes them to work for lunch and one of my son favorite snacks is orange slices.I am lucky enough to live 20 minutes from a place called World Showcase of Citrus where I pick my own oranges whenever they are in season. One of the biggest hassles for me is trying to peel an orange. These peelers make the job so much easier and anyone can use them.

Valencia oranges are in season from late March through June.

Fresh Picked Strawberries

Sweet juicy bright red strawberries what could be better? Every year I go strawberry picking with my kids. I will never forget the first time my son tasted a strawberry. After his first hesitant bite he promptly wolfed the whole strawberry down! I have a ton of recipes for strawberries. Everything from strawberry shortcakes to strawberry pie. Our family enjoys strawberries so much that I also freeze them and make jams too. The absolute best way to eat strawberries is with whip cream. Yummy! Using a strawberry huller and a slicer makes preparing all these strawberries faster and easier.

Crisp Apples

There are many different varieties of apples but two of my favorites are the green Granny Smith and Red Delicious. I like to pack these for lunches and picnics as they are sturdy and don't spoil quickly. My son has become old enough to eat apples but it was such a hassle to cut them into slices. An apple corer slicer makes cutting up apples for snacks or recipes a breeze.

Apple varieties range in size from a little larger than a cherry to as large as a grapefruit. There are apples that have an aftertaste of pears, citrus, cinnamon, cloves, coconut, strawberries, grapes and even pineapple!

Tropical Mangos

I love Mango and I put in my juicer all the time with other fruits. This is the hardest fruit I have ever worked with. The skin on the fruit is hard to peel and the fruit is difficult to split. This mango splitter has made preparing and eating this fruit much easier.

I recommend a stainless steel splitter as they are much sturdier and the Mango is a hard fruit to split

Georgia Peaches

It's true some of the best peaches I ever had are from Georgia. But, I am more familiar with peaches grown in a different area. My dad lives in a town named Gaffney in South Carolina. If you have ever driven through the area on your way to Charlotte North Carolina you would remember it from the water tower in the shape of a giant peach. I am a true southerner and have quite a few peach recipes in my collection. One of my favorite desserts to make is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream melting over the top. Talk about a slice of heaven. Yummy.... Using this peach pitter makes preparing anything with peaches much easier.

The Top Reasons Why I Eat Fruit

Fruit is tasty and full of nutrition. It is a great alternative to sugary sweet snacks that my child tends to want. Most fruits take little preparation. Grapes taste great if you freeze them for a few hours before eating. Blueberries are full of antioxidants and I add a few to smoothies cereal and yogurt for a delicious boost of flavor. I can't think of a healthier way for my family to get there vitamins than straight from nature.

Strawberries - love 'em - preferably the ones I have grown myself! They have to be in season and not the ones you can buy in the supermarket at Christmas which have no real flavour
