The Great British Bake Off

Updated on January 11, 2014

Introduction to The Great British Bake Off

If you've not already heard, The Great British Bake Off is an increasing popular UK baking show, testing the ability to bake of some of the self-proclaimed best bakers in the UK!

To be honest, I used to do some baking a few years ago, but my Internet Marketing took over my time sadly!

Having said that, I've just been introduced into the awesome Great British Bake Off TV show, and I love it!!

Since the TV series was first broadcast in 2010, I've got a lot of catching up to do!

Basically, each week there are 3 challenges set to the contestants to bake the same dish/desert. The judges rate each of their submissions and an overall winner is announced!

The challenges are pretty complicated, and it's hilarious to watch some of the baking creations that the contestants come up with! Needless to say, it doesn't always work out!!!!

Anyway, enjoy this page all about this baking phenomenon of a TV show!

You may have already watched The Great British Bake Off and thought.. Wow, you'd love to be able to recreate some of the fantastic dishes and bakes that the contestants of the show do! Maybe you're still yet to watch the programme and are just very keen on your baking! Either way, here are some of the fantastic bakes that have been seen on the The Great British Bake Off recipes since it's first broadcast in 2010.

1. Hand-raised chicken and bacon pie

I love chicken. And I love bacon. I also love pie. So this fantastic dish is one that made my mouth water when I saw it! Forget the traditional Pork Pie, which is a common savoury treat in the UK - this beautiful sensual pie is the future (in my opinion anyway!) I've not actually had the opportunity to bake one of these fantastic pies yet, but when I do, you will be the first to know!!

2. Shortcake biscuits with salted peanut caramel filling

Another one of my favourite foods (of the sweet kind this time) is shortbread. Perhaps it's due to growing up feasting off my Scottish Grandma's love for it, but either way - I adore shortcake. When I first saw this cake, I knew I had to try it.. and I did!

Although the concept of having the 'savoury' salted peanuts in a sweet was an odd sensation for me to think of first, it actually blends in extremely well with the other flavours in the brilliant desert!

3. Jam Doughnuts

I'm yet to meet anyone that doesn't love a jam doughnut, and I'm certainly not one of these people! When you go to your local bakers, Jam Doughnuts are often the cheapest desert on offer - so in my head, I imagined these to be relativity easy to make. As an amateur baker, I was wrong!! Sometimes things can look a lot more easily to do on TV than in reality! And these were one for me! I'll be taking another go at these in the future (when I pluck up the courage after my first attempt/disaster!)

4. Chocolate and Chilli Buns

It's always been a combination thrown around that is meant to lead to a small explosion of delight into the eaters mouth, chocolate and chilli. I have to admit, I've never tried these buns yet, but I'm quite excited at the thought - as I'm a huge fan of both chocolate and chilli! I always wonder exactly as to what it'll taste like. Fortunately, I've been inspired enough to try these sweet (and possibly savoury) buns soon - so will keep you posted as to the results

So there you have it, some amazing Great British Bake Off recipes to get you started on your quest to be the ultimate baker!!
