Tie Dye Cupcake Recipe

1 White or Yellow Cake Mix box

1 Can White Frosting or Buttercream Frosting

Food Coloring ~ your choice of color

Follow the easy recipe instructions on the back of the cake mix box. After you have mixed the batter together, separate the batter into five

bowls. Add a few drops of the food coloring at a time to get the desired colors. You can always add more

color if needed.

Put the cupcake papers into the cupcake tins. Add a small amount of each batter into the cupcake papers. You can add the

different colors in layers to begin. Get creative here as much because there is no wrong way to do this. Take a tooth pick and swirl

the Tie-Dye batter around in each cupcake tin. Be careful not to mix too much or you will have a not so pretty look to the cupcakes. Bake the cupcakes according to the package. Take out of the oven and cool.

Tie Dye Cupcakes For Every Occasion and Celebration

For those who believe that a cupcake can be so much more than a cupcake, there are many ways that they can go about spicing up the regular flavors and appearances of these daring little treats. Tie dye cupcakes are really popular at the moment, and this is because they look just as good as they taste and they are very easy to make. While there are a few ways that you can go about mixing up a batch of these goodies, here is a simple way to ensure your cupcakes come out perfect every time.

Tie dye instructions

Mixing the Batter

Start out by mixing up a batch of vanilla cupcake batter, and when this job is done, divide the batter up into a few different bowls. The amount of bowls that you have will affect the number of colors you mix up into the cupcakes, so the more the merrier! Drop some food coloring into each bowl, but make sure that you do not mix the colors just yet.

Mixing it up

Once the batter has been “hued”, take a spoonful of the different colors and place them on top of each other inside a cupcake liner. Remember, you don’t have to make the layers even; in fact, the messier you are with regards to this step, the better the outcome will be. The liners only have to be ¾ full, so don’t fill them up to the top! The last step is to use a toothpick to mix up the batter while it is still in the cupcake liner. As you mix, the colors will begin to merge; pop them into the oven and when they are ready, break them open to experience real tie dye cupcakes.

Great idea, but would it work if I made a plain cake mixture using one of my recipes? I'm not a great fan of ready made cake mixes.

I've been making "tie dye" cupcakes & cakes since the late 60's. The first time I did it was with a friend and we had never seen it done before but we were goofing around and made a tie dye cake. Brought it to work and so many were afraid to eat some since they thought that it was "laced", which it wasn't.
