Topsy Turvy Cake Pans

If you see a cake that has been built several layers high and yet seems to defy all the laws of gravity, you can be sure the creator of said cake very craftily used topsy turvy cake pans. These have been a well kept secret by those who want to wow others with their baking skills, but here you can discover just how easy it is for you to bake and create one of these cakes with the aid of topsy turvy cake pans as well. Just remember to keep it a secret, ok?

Round Topsy Turvey Cake Pan Set

If you want to make a round topsy turvy cake you'll be pleased to know you can buy sets of pans to make the job as easy as possible. Here there are sets of three, four and five cake pans. They make it easier than it probably should be to make a multi-tiered cake that looks as if it is toppling over, especially when you dare to go five layers high!

A great starter set if you never want to go higher than 3 layers...

Want to go a little higher? Want more options for a good price? Try this set for size.

This is the set I'd go for. This gives you five sizes, ideal for two, three, four and five tier cakes. What more could you ask for?

Square Topsy Turvy Cake Pan Set

If you prefer the look of a square cake, or you have a specific design in mind that requires square layers to pile on top of one another, this is the section for you.

As with the round sets above, you've got three, four or five piece sets to choose from. Remember that in both cases if you buy the largest set, you don't always have to use them all. You could use the smallest three or largest three, for example.

Same as the round three piece set, but square. Simple.

Again, you'll get more opportunities to make different tiered cakes with this one.

Would I opt for the five piece set? Yes I definitely would. More versatility and more challenges!

Why Use Topsy Turvy Pans for Cakes?

If you're used to turning out standard round cakes for birthdays and other occasions, you may be wondering why to invest in a set of these cake pans instead. In truth, it's one of the easiest ways to produce an impressive cake that has the 'wow' factor.

The great thing about these topsy turvey cake pans is you can buy them in sets so you get to choose whether you want to go two, three, four or even five layers high. And really, once you've made the sponges and built them up how you want them to be, it's relatively easy to decorate them. Just ice the cake and use piping to hide the joins in between the topsy turvy layers. Once you've done that, you can go to town using all manner of cake decorations, piped decorations and whatever else you need to finish your design.

13th Birthday Topsy Turvy Cake

This is really cool. I know someone who hits the dreaded 13th birthday this year (growing from a tweenie to a true teen... uh oh...) and this would wow them completely. Maybe I should get baking?

Pan Sizes For Topsy Turvy Cake

This topsy turvy pan comes in five different sizes - 6", 8", 10" 12" and 14". If you have a set already and one pan is damaged, this is the ideal way to replace it without getting a whole new set. Alternatively you can just buy two sizes if that's all you need, but you get total control over your purchase.

Topsy turvy cake pans...

... make creating stunning cakes easy.

It's all an illusion but it works :)

3D Cake Pan Set For Topsy Turvy Cake

If you like the idea of baking topsy turvey sponges but you'd rather have lots of little ones than a huge one, these silicone molds will do the trick. There's one for 6 cakes and another one for 24 - perfect for when you want to impress the kids! The great thing about these is they pop out of the molds ready made, so you don't have to worry about stacking lots of little layers together.

We've got a couple of these silicone moulds at home and they're a real joy to use. It doesn't take long for the cakes to cool down once you've got them out, and you'll soon have a selection of mini topsy turvy cakes just waiting to be iced or decorated. What more could you want?

Topsy turvy cake pan sets are perfect for novice cake makers

You can achieve stunning results with ease

If you know how to bake a cake, you can use these pans to create a two, three, four or even a mammoth five tier cake that seems to defy gravity. It may all look as though it is going to slide off and fall to the floor, but you'll know the secret of how the topsy turvy cake pans work.

Once you've baked one, everyone will be so impressed you'll want to bake more in the future. Just think, you could make them for all these kinds of occasions:

* Christmas

* Easter

* Weddings

* Birthday parties

* Anniversaries

How many more occasions can you think of?

Round Topsy Turvey Cake Pan

Here is another individual cake pan, except this one is round instead of square. It's available in 6", 8", 10", 12" and 14" pans, just as the square one was.

Cake Decorating Techniques - Shell Borders

Easier than it looks? Actually it is - I tried piping for the first time a few months back and I found if you go at it with a bit of confidence it's easier than you think. Still takes practice of course... but trying to be too slow and careful doesn't seem to work. Give it a go and see if you can make shell borders like these. Mine weren't as good but they were definitely passable. Quick tip - practice on a baking sheet or something similar before attempting to edge the cake. It allows you to get a rhythm going and you'll be able to approach the cake with more confidence.

Totally Topsy Turvy DVD Set

This DVD set has a run time of nearly four hours. Although it shows you how to make your cakes without the need for the tins, you can of course save yourself a lot of hassle by buying the proper tins. You'll get plenty more advice here about decorating your cakes too though, so it makes a good purchase. And of course if you're looking for a gift for a cake baking mad friend...

      @squid-pinkchic18: They're rather unusual, aren't they? You can get the credit for making what looks to be a really tricky cake :)
