Trophy Cupcakes and Parties - A Great Cookbook
Cupcakes used to be simple sponges with a bit of frosting on top, or maybe with the top cut off and halved and made into a butterfly cake with a blob of cream. Now many of them are works of art and seeing photos of them puts me in a baking mood.
When I first saw this book I thought the word “trophy” meant they were good enough to win trophies, but it is actually named after the Trophy bakery in Seattle that the author, Jennifer Shea, founded in 2007 and it is now famous for its beautiful creations. The book was released in late 2013 and has recipes and instructions for products you can buy in her shop.
It is more than a recipe book, as it has party ideas that include not just the cupcakes, but drink and decorating ideas too. Party themes can be destination (the Paris one has delicious-sounding crème brulee cupcakes), first birthday, engagement, nautical, forest fairy tea party, crafty kids parties and heaps more. They cover fun childrens parties to sophisticated adult parties.
Recipes include the most popular flavours sold at their bakery including red velvet, salted caramel, lemon meringue, vanilla, triple chocolate, pina colada, gluten-free orange almond rose and a locally famous specialty S’mores version that has been featured on the Martha Stewart show.
The book is available as a kindle edition or a 240 page hardback, and has great photographs. It contains baking and frosting tips and also discusses the baking items you need whether you are a novice or a cupcake pro. There is also information on how to develop theme parties including decorating and entertaining ideas.
