The Ultimate Hemp Shake Recipe

Updated on July 20, 2013

The Ultimate Hemp Shake

Hemp seeds are one of the most nutritious foods on Earth. They are packed with all kinds of nutrients, and are made even more easily digestible through blending. Using hemp in your drinks is the fastest way to intake more hemp nutrition and become stronger in all facets of your life.

How to Make the Ultimate Hemp Shake

Recipe and Instructions

The Ultimate Hemp Shake is packed with all the key nutrients one needs to live - vitamins, minerals, essential amino and fatty acids, complex carbohydrates, soluble and insoluble fiber, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients. It's pretty easy to make, as long as you have the right stuff. Below are the ingredients and how much you need:

Ingredients:

1 cup hemp, coconut, or almond milk

3 tablespoons hemp protein powder

2 tablespoons hemp seed

1 tablespoon "greens" powder

1/2 cup spinach

1/2 cup kale

1/2 cup wild blueberries

1/2 cup raspberries

1/2 banana

2 ice cubes

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Process:

Mix the non-dairy milk, protein and greens powder, banana, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a blender. It is best to get these blended first before adding the other ingredients. Then put the spinach, kale, blueberries, raspberries, banana, and ice cubes in, and re-blend. Continue to blend until at desired consistency.

Pour from blender into a cup, and you're ready to go!

The Benefits of Hemp Nutrition

What's so special about hemp, and why is it the central focus of this shake? For one, hemp protein is the world's best vegetarian protein, and perhaps the best protein hands down. Not only does it contain all 20 amino acids, including the essential ones, but the protein comes in a highly bioavailable form called globulin edestin. It is easily assimilated into the body.

While the protein powder in the drink is mostly, as the name suggests, protein, there are some essential fatty acids in there. Also present are insoluble and soluble fibers, and minerals. However, by adding the entirely unprocessed hemp seed as well, you can greatly increase the amount of Omega-3s in your drink.

Hemp seed doesn't just have regular Omega-3 and Omega-6. It is one of the rare food sources which also contains Super Omega-3 and Super Omega-6. These acids help metabolize other fats and make them work more efficiently.

Hemp Seed

Hemp seed is delicious in many other things besides shakes. You can use it in soups, salads, cereal, rice, beans, pasta, crackers, sandwiches, and more. Hemp seed tastes great when lightly toasted, and some people even like it raw. No matter what your style, you can find a way to incorporate hemp seed into your life!

I absolutely love hemp - and just finished a few spoonfuls of hulled hemp seed. It's one of the tastiest treats for me! And it packs a huge nutritional punch! I also sometimes take coconut milk, hemp protein, and a tablespoon or 2 of cocoa and a touch of xylitol or stevia and blend it into a shake. YUM! :)
