Unique & Unusual Tea Kettles

Updated on October 17, 2014

Unique & Unusual Tea Kettles

A unique or unusual tea kettle makes a great gift idea for the tea enthusiast. Last Christmas, I was shopping for a family member who wanted a "teapot that goes on the stove".... with some research I figured out that what they wanted was actually a tea kettle. A tea kettle is used to heat up water on the stove, whereas a tea pot is used to serve hot water.

I wanted to give a memorable gift, so I started looking for something different. Here are the best unique and unusual tea kettles that I could find on the web. Whether you buy one today, or are just browsing, I'm sure you'll be intrigued by these!

Unique Giraffe Tea Kettle - Described as both "Cute" and "Ridiculous" by reviewers!

Supreme Housewares Giraffe Whistling Tea Kettle
Supreme Housewares Giraffe Whistling Tea Kettle

This is an unusual tea kettle! The handle is actually designed to look like a giraffe neck and head. It makes a great stove ornament, but it's far more than just a decoration... Many of the reviewers really love using this tea kettle. Apparently the whistle sounds a bit more like a freight train than a traditional tea kettle whistle.

Rooster Whistling Tea Party - Great Farm Themed Tea Kettle

This is a cute tea kettle sure would be appropriate for anyone who loves chickens and roosters. Roosters always remind me of waking up early when I'm visiting my Aunt who lives in the country.

Alessi Michael Graves Kettle with Small Bird Shaped Whistle - Mid Century Modern Design

This amazingly designed tea kettle is made for both function and beauty. It's very durable and high quality and made out of 18/10 stainless steel. It features a red bird shaped whistle. It's designed with a wide base so that the water boils fast.

It has an insulated blue handle that's cool to the touch.

It was designed by Michael Graves in 1985.

Cuisinart PTK-330W PerfecTemp Porcelain Enameled Teakettle, White
Cuisinart PTK-330W PerfecTemp Porcelain Enameled Teakettle, White

At first glance, this tea kettle doesn't look any different from a normal one, but then you see the built in thermometer, which is color coded to indicate the proper temperature range for various kinds of tea or coffee. This is the ultimate gadget for a tea connoisseur. If you're addicted to tea, you probably want to achieve that perfect flavor.... This tea kettle will help you with it! Plus it's a high quality Cuisinart product and is designed to heat up fast and stay hot.

Paula Deen Teakettle - Blue, Green, Red, & Orange Colors Available - Looks Old Fashioned to Me

To me, this style looks like vintage or retro.

Unique Two-Tone Blue Color Tea Kettle - High Quality Tea Kettle that Looks Nice!

Le Creuset Enamel-on-Steel Halo 1-1/2-Quart Teakettle, Caribbean
Le Creuset Enamel-on-Steel Halo 1-1/2-Quart Teakettle, Caribbean

This tea kettle can be used on all types of stoves, including an induction stovetop. It is designed with the tea lover in mind. The handle is designed so that it's comfortable to grip and easy to pour from.

This would make a great housewarming, wedding, or Mother's Day gift.

Christmas Themed Tea Kettle - Beautiful Winter Scene - Painted with Snowman & Evergreen Tree

This is a great tea kettle for the holidays! It is hand painted and signed by the artist.

Alessi Pito Kettle - Made out of 18/10 Stainless Steel & Mahogany

Right now this tea kettle is retailing for over $400, which makes this a very expensive tea kettle. However, the design is stunning. It reminds me of dolphins. The artist, Frank Gehry, says he was drawing fish when he designed this. The handle and cap are made out of mahogany wood.

Copper Plated Tea Kettle - with Multi-Tone Harmonica Whistle

Pretty Tea Kettle with Flowers - For Gas and Electric Stoves

Corelle Coordinates by Reston Lloyd Harmonic Hum Whistling Teakettle, 2.2 Quart, Pretty Pink
Corelle Coordinates by Reston Lloyd Harmonic Hum Whistling Teakettle, 2.2 Quart, Pretty Pink

This is a great tea kettle for a pink themed kitchen, or a kitchen with a flower pattern.

It's also quite affordable, but has good reviews, so I don't think it's too cheaply made.

Turkish Style Double Tea Pot Tea Kettle - Perhaps a new way to serve tea?

Stainless Steel Turkish Tea Pot Size No:2
Stainless Steel Turkish Tea Pot Size No:2

For those who wonder what this double decker tea pot (tea kettle) is about, this review explains it best: "Aficionados of Turkish tea, put water in the bottom pot to boil, then pour it over the tea in the top pot, but because the bottom pot is larger, there is left over hot water in the bottom pot which acts as a double-boiler keeping the tea in the top hot. Also, Turks make their tea fairly strong, then use water from the bottom pot to water-down the strong tea to suit the taste of the drinker. "

@harrybigg: It is interesting! I think people who like tea have a kettle, and those who aren't big tea drinkers don't. I do have a kettle, but half of the time I just heat the water in the microwave. I think using the microwave to heat up water for tea, cocoa, or instant coffee is really common here. But kettles are easy to find, all stores that sell kitchen tools have kettles, and they even have electric plug-in ones too.

Lovely imaginative kettles. Here in England almost every household has a kettle (we wouldn't call it a 'tea kettle' specifically) as most also drink instant coffee. Is it not so common in the US to own a kettle because many more people have coffee makers? Or am I missing something? You must still need to boil water for other cooking applications though. I'm genuinely interested, not here to start tea based arguments :)

The White Cat Whistling Tea Kettle by Copco is my all time favourite kettle. The only problem is that the colour depicting the cat's face can come off if it needs any more than a light wiping to clean it :-(
