Vegans are people who choose to not exploit animals as part of their lifestyle.
In short, this means they do not eat animals or anything that comes from animals. Nor do they use leather, wool, feathers, or fur, or support animal-based entertainment, such as animal circus or rodeo shows.
They avoid products, including household and personal care items, that are made with animal-derived ingredients or that are tested on animals. Sometimes the term "cruelty-free" is used to describe foods and products that are made without harming animals.
The idea of living a vegan lifestyle is to eliminate, as much as is possible, the pain and suffering that is inflicted upon animals. In so doing, we also have a tremendous positive impact on the earth's environment and improve our own personal health.
Being vegan is a journey we take much more than it is a destination at which we arrive.
Within the vegan community, there are many different ways of expressing our vegan ideals. There is no absolute "right" or "wrong" - just individuals and families doing what feels right and achievable for them at the present moment in their journey. It is about doing our personal best, not about being perfect or superior to others.
