Vegetarian Meals - A Healthy Alternative
In the last couple of years the food industry realised that there is a great urge for vegetarian meals and food from customers. So by now almost all stores are offering some kind of alternative to food which contains meat. Even big fast food chains as “Mc Donald’s” are selling special burgers which are completely vegetarian. The reason for this is that more and more people think about what they eat and often they try to start a healthier lifestyle which will increase their quality of life. In the following paragraphs, I will give out more information about how this food is created, what is important about it and a standard vegetarian meal.
What are vegetarian meals and what should vegetarians note?
Vegetarian meals are simply meals which do not contain animal meat at all. Other branches of it are veganism whose followers do not even eat any kind of food that contains things which animals produce (as for example: milk) and pescetarianism whose followers do eat no meat with the exception of fish. But this does not mean that vegetarians always have to eat the same. There is a wide variety of foods they can choose of as they still can eat everything else, e.g. vegetables, fruits and so on.
A lot of people choose this lifestyle because of ethical reasons. This means that they think it is morally wrong to eat animal meat as for this, animals are bred only for the purpose of eating and so they have to suffer a lot. Also, the space which is used to breed animals is a lot, and farmers could grow vegetables like potatoes instead which would give out a lot more food. The other part of the vegetarian community simply thinks that it is disgusting to eat meat as the body of an animal is comparable to the physical structure of a human.
If you choose to be a vegetarian you should note that you need to increase your intake of (unsatured) fats, calories and proteins as normally you get these important ingredients from meat. The easiest way to get all three of these is to eat a lot of nuts. They are healthy and easy to get. Tofu is also a well-known replacement as it is very healthy and is nice with a lot of different types of things such as rice,potatoes and noodles. Vegetarians often eat it because it is full of proteins and it will still your hunger.
Receipt for a “Pumpkin Casserole”
I chose this receipt as an example because it is easy to cook and tastes great! Also it is very healthy and quite cheap.
1 cup milk
1 cup white sugar
2 pinches ground cinnamon
1/3 cup self-rising flour
2 cups of pumpkin puree
½ cup butter
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
First Step: Just combine all ingredients and then spoon them into a casserole dish.
Second Step: Bake this mass at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for one hour.
