if you can email me with advice on how to get them to stop eating potatoes. also when I said I have to mix potatoes in their food or they wont eat it I meant they wont eat their food unless there is some potatoes in it. I bought food that looks like there is potatoes, but that doesn't help at all. Here's my email acogle2013@jamesrumsey.net. thank you

my rabbits eats potatoes all the time and they love them. every time I peel potatoes they come up to me and start licking my hands and try to eat the already peeled potatoes. I cut one in small pieces one day and they had a field day with them. I only give them potatoes once in awhile. I give them the whole thing (without the peel) they are fine. I also give them Sweet potatoes as well and do the same thing I did with the regular potatoes. They love them. sometimes I have to mix the potatoes with their food or they will not eat it. I know it says its bad for them but im not going to change their diet. I read on other websites you can give them potatoes just not every day and not to much. if you know how I can get them to stop liking potatoes please tell me. thank you.

Chantel...Although rabbits like and will eat broccoli and cauliflower, you should not feed it to them. Broccoli and cauliflower cause gas. Rabbits cannot pass gas. The gas builds up inside of them and they can die from this. This is called GI Stasis :)

Two (2) Questions, please. I feed my Bunny fresh vegetables every day, and Timothy Hay and Pellets are available as needed. I also give him - in addition to filtered/fresh water every day - some vegetable stock (liquid) that I prepare from vegetable cut-off's (No Potatoes/starch items). I thought, if I were a Bunny, I'd like something OTHER THAN water all the time. NO SALT IS EVER ADDED! Vegetables are boiled down for two (2) hours, allowed to cool overnight and then strained for use. He loves it! What's your opinion on the use of vegetable stock in addition to fresh water? Secondly, our Bunny demonstrates VERY GOOD potty habits, hardly ever making a mistake; however, WHEREVER he eats Timothy Hay....that's where he goes. He NEVER makes it to the litter box. Ever heard of that? We subsequently hung the "hay bin" adjacent to the litter box to control this, and thus far it seems to be working.

One of my rabbits found an apple core that must've fallen out the bin. Pretty certain it had some apple seeds in it. Heard a munching behind me while I was sleeping, woke up to discover my husband let the bunnies loose and were now snacking on the 3-day old apple core. Luckily they haven't suffered any poisoning as result but it sure made me worry.

They also like the canary seed I noticed. We have a huge sack of it upstairs with some dried egg food mixed into it. Today heard a rustling in the room and found a rabbit half-buried into the sack munching on the seed.

I found a white rabbit at my school the other day, and i took it home with me. I gave it lots of baby carrots and it ate the whole bag within 2-3 days, and i also gave it plenty of lettuce, though i don't know what kind of lettuce it was. It seems fine and healthy to me, so I guess the it got past the lettuce. So, what is the best food to give my bunny besides pellets? I've been giving it grass and celery, but what weeds/plants can it eat? I've heard you can feed it leaves, but i'm not so sure... Help?

      mitchbells_25,

Not a good idea. Soft foods like this don't suit the constantly growing teeth of a rabbit, which need to be worn down by gnawing on hard foods. Think of rabbits in the wild: they eat only uncooked vegetable matter, with a great deal of fibre.

      M.T,

No. Green beans are generally considered to be bad for bunnies because they can cause problems with gas and they are too high is sugar. Overall, best avoided.

My daughter's rabbit died today. He was a flop-ear and only 2-3 months old. He was very lively and playful yesterday, but when I awoke this morning, I thought he was dead. When I went to retrieve him, he got up to try to run, which he never did before because he knew us, he seemed to not be able to walk on either left legs. Two hours later I was holding him because I knew he was dying and I didn't want him to die alone. He then let out two screams because he was in pain. My daughter couldn't take it and ran out of the house....we were both in tears and I grew up on a farm and I am used to tragedies. A couple of minutes later he was gone. What happened? Why was the rabbit that was so full of energy the day before all of a sudden not be able to walk and then die in such a painful manner? I had given him some strawberries the day before, and my daughter not knowing what I did, gave him more. Did I kill my daughters rabbit? If I did, don't sugar-coat your answer. I want to learn from my mistakes if my daughter decides to get another. This was a very disturbing experience.

Are you frickin kidding me, a rabbit CAN NOT eat an orange peel!!!! First off it has pesticides on it and a rabbit can't digest the peel, the orange is alright without the seeds but should only be given as a treat. A rabbit can eat lettuce such as romaine but shouldn't eat iceburg lettuce because it can give them diarhea and is bad for them. You can give rabbits dandelion greens (just the leaves, not the stems) Make sure that any greens that you get outside such as, dandelion greens and frest cut grass, that they don't have pesticides or weed killer on it, because it can be fatal to your bunny. If your bunny is having diarreha, it could be that he isn't getting enough fiber in his diet to digest the greens you are giving him. To see if it is the veggies are causing the problem or a certain veggie, take away the veggies and feed him more hay and things that have a lot of fiber in it, and his diarrahea should go away, if it doesn't take him to a vet right away because rabbits can go downhill really fast!!

Let him run around in a bunny proof room(no loose wires or harmful things he may chew) or in the garden(only if the fence is secure) or if you don't want him loose you could get a run(small cage with no floor so you can place it on grass) and one more alternative is a harness and lead.. I know it sounds stupid but you could walk with your bunny just around the garden or house. It's a good way to keep an eye on your bunny.
