I'm always curious what prompts people to start writing blogs. Is there something on their mind they need to get off their chest? Do they hope to make money off their thoughts? Or maybe they just want to share their expertise with the world? Whatever the reason, I'm glad they do it, because I enjoy reading the various blogs.
But I want to know..."Why do YOU blog?
you mean if you have blog on other sites??
I am here at HP to write and hope to share what knowledge I have, my humble wish -- specially for my children hubs is to create a difference mainly for childrens sake through my writings
I'm here for the excitement of debate. I'm a Libra/Sag. I'm happiest when I'm in the middle of a hot debate or argument. I don't care what the topic is, as long as there are points to be argued; I'm there. It's my nature, it makes me happy. I don't write here on hubpages to make money. There are some many Tea Baggers and Religious nuts here on hubpages to argue with, I would pay them.
I blog because I enjoy writing and I'd like to make some money.
However I don't blog on HubPages, and neither should you. HubPages is not a blogging site. It's a place to write quality magazine-style articles.
It's a great reliever of abdominal gas!.... and away goes trouble down the drain!
I'm taking a year's hiatus from life -- maybe two years before jumping back into the fray. This is an interesting diversion.
What am I here for? To write. What do I hope to accomplish? Um...to finish my story for publishing.
I write on here because it's fun, it's a healthy getaway from my own .com's.
If I'm not writing my mind is not calm and I can't sleep.
Writers Write to be at peace and balanced.
Just saying....
I write here on Hubpages because it gives me a chance to release & the opportunity to share with others in hopes that something I write will touch an individual in a positive way. Money doesn't motivate me. I'm here to share & validate.
habee, your answers just always make me smile! Habee, your the feel good lady all the time. I didn't forget about that Christmas Dinner at your beautiful table this year..mmm I smell the ham and roasted turkey right now!
I am here to learn, to experience new ideas, new people, different thought processes. If anyone cares to look at it, I would share my perspective on the world around us, as well as adding a little levity from time to time!
Que sera sera!
Que sera sera = whatever will be will be! hey logi, want to share ideas in other language's ?
You see, in between those who are here purely to blog and those who write articles just for commercial purposes, there are lots of people who love to write articles on serious topics - social/ political/travel/relationships etc - yet are not here to earn but solely for readership.
None of my hubs can qualify as blogs, nor do I aim to write for an income. Yet, a lot of research and hardwork goes into my work.... and the only thing I really hope for is to be read and inspire with my words.
Ummm I love writing here for the attention I get
is that bad?
Hey at least I am using positive attention seeking strategies
I'm here to change the world! LOL! (If I can stop typing long enough to clean up my desk...)
But seriously, I think for me it's all about self respect and promoting awareness about things that have affected me and my kids. I hope that by sharing my story, I will provide others with an insight that will foster empathy.
The thing that originally prompted me to join hubpages was some advice that my best mate gave me, and it happened in an ironically round about way:
I had lost my self respect while in an abusive relationship, and though I had finally removed myself from the situation, I was not making much progress in getting it back.
My best friend had also just had a bit of an all-round life crisis, but he had spiraled downhill until one day he told me that he felt he was either going to do something really bad to someone (a particular person who had betrayed him) or kill himself instead.
After my initial panic at not being able to reach him on the phone straight afterward, I calmed down enough to write him a long email. I poured my heart and soul into it hoping desperately that I could somehow turn his train of thought around and prevent a tragedy.
Turned out that he was deeply touched and inspired by the email. He took heart from my words, and turned his life around.
Then one day a few weeks later, I received an email from him saying how much he loved what I had written, and that he loved me lots and thank you etc... Then he said "Did you realize that this paragraph applies to you too?" and proceeded to quote my own words back to me:
"Self respect cannot be found anywhere but in your own heart. It cannot be given to you, only you can find it. It comes from within; from reaching for your dreams, from the satisfaction of achievement, from knowing you have something to offer, from the joy you take in entertaining and educating others, from inspiring others to greater things, from giving of yourself for the greater good, from providing people with an insight that will foster empathy, from sharing your knowledge with those who seek enlightenment, from the pride felt with each small success, from having a sense of purpose that gives you direction, from forgiving yourself for your mistakes, from gaining wisdom from your experiences, and from never giving in to failure, but always having the courage to try again.
Self respect will increase with self love, and by believing in and trusting yourself, instead of waiting for others to do so. Only when you have achieved that, will you feel worthy of the respect of others, and only then will you be able to open your heart to the warmth of their love. Find the light and add your own to its brilliance. Love and believe in yourself. Then the love and warmth you seek will be able find you."
That was 7 weeks ago. I laughed at the truth of his comment, and then I took the hint and listened to my own advice. I've been writing ever since...
I'm here for fame and fortune, since that's not working out too well I am here to exorcize my demons and soothe my over-active imagination.

How are you promoting your poetry and fiction writing now that Hubpages is putting most of it on idle?

What is your purpose for being on HubPages? Everyone had a purpose for joining, what was yours? When I ran across HubPages, it looked real cool I joined actually a couple years ago, but never did nothing with it. I wanted to write, but it seemed complicated. I love to write since a child. I think I...

I'm really new. I was a teacher for 14 years, was laid off in June and I started journaling to relieve some stress. I have always loved to write, and I got this crazy idea that I should join hubpages to learn from other great writers.I don't care about earning, if it were to happen great, but the...

I was just curious for those of you who write for Medium and/or Substack, how your earnings compare to what you make on Hubpages. Do you think it's worthwhile writing for these sites? I look forward to everyone's insight. Thank you.

I log on every day, and it seems that I always find negative things popping up in the forums. I am sorry that so many people are struggling on HubPages. From SEO issues to having popular hubs unfeatured for a multitude of reasons, it seems very discouraging for any newcomers. When I first got here...
