Corporate Contacted Me on 1 of My Hubs

Just wanted to share something.  I know it's been mentioned before here, but you never know who reads your hubs.

I have quite a few product-related hubs and one in particular that I was highly complimentary about involves a product manufactured by a large corporation.  Their corporate office contacted me this week asking for the name and address of the author of my article.  I quickly looked over my hub to make sure I hadn't said anything that they may want to take issue with, but still responded via email letting them know that I was the author and what could I help them with.

They responded with a letter attachment from the corporate vice president who was telling me how thrilled he was to read my review of their product and that it was the best review they had ever come across and that they wanted me to sign a release to publish my hub in it's entirety with full credit to me on their corporate website.

In addition, they wanted my address to send me a complimentary product as a gift.

I wrote back thanking them for the nice letter and compliments, but I told them that I would be penalized for duplicate content by publishing my article in it's entirety, but I would agree to re-writing a piece specifically for their website, or would agree to a link to my original hub.

I'm now waiting to hear their reply.

It just goes to show that you really need to think about what you write and who may one day end up reading it.

I made more money from my HubPages writing from outside sources than Google and Amazon combined. Here are three examples:

1.) A modest sized company tracked me down at my office and called several times. My front desk thought it was a sales call and they did not leave a message. Finally, they decided to leave a message and I took their call. They wanted me to write for their company. They complimented me by saying, "It is rare to find an accountant that can also write." At least I think it was a compliment. We are still working details on the arrangement.

2.) I acquired several new tax clients, including a $2,500+ account for a weekend of work. I'll work 10 hours over the weekend for $2,500 anytime. Again, they tracked me down from hubs. I need to make myself easier to find. Might make more money that way.

3.) Several local businesses have asked me to write blogs and/or hubs for them, including one of the largest rock bands in the midwest. The rock band is slated for a 5 part hub series and blog when I get the time this summer and a wedding hall is on slate for later this month.

Amazon and Google are growing nice, but the additional outside income is really nice.

Great job, KCC. It is an ego trip and profitable when these things happen.  Consider allowing the duplicate content for a while or a truncated hub. Regardless, ask them to keep the link to your hub permenantly.

Wow, Keith!  See, that's a prime example of how HubPages can be so much more than people realize! Way to go!!!

Thanks for sharing that so that everyone can realize the potential!

congratulations, KCC, that is inSANE! (that means good wink

can you unpublish your hub, write a new but different hub about mag lites and satisfy the corporation's desire to publish your content in its entirety? this could be big and lead to something else, IMHO, and that is what i would do if it were me.

in any case, i am happy for you. smile

Thanks Cosette!  I don't see the need to unpublish what I have.  I would prefer to write a new paragraph for their site and still provide a link to my existing hub.

I'm just wrote the VP yesterday.  I'm waiting on his reply.

Wow, that's brilliant.  Here's hoping they say "do a rewrite" and pay you for it!

I will be ok either way....rewriting a piece for free or having them backlink to my hub.  I guess I'd really prefer the backlink.  I'm sure payment isn't involved anywhere in this.  LOL

    What wonderful news!

(But, don't forget, you now might have to disclose on that hub that you've accepted a free gift from the company. At least that's what my lawyer has told me. It's one of the reasons that I have a no gift policy for my business - and I really used to love the stuff ALOT!

After the FTC wrote its new policy on bloggers and reviews, I asked my lawyer to read it and set up a code of conduct for me, to keep my life as simple as possible. So yo might want to look into this.)

But anyways not to be a wet blanket. The fact that your hub placed so high and tat someone from corporate read it, is truly exciting and a great indication that you're on the right track.

There are ways to avoid duplicate content penalty, actually.

I think re-writing it is the best option to avoid that, but we'll see what they come up with.
