Wayne Rooney (of Manchester United and England) has just issued an apology for being sarcastic when the team were booed off the pitch after the game yesterday. Should they have booed? It seems a lot of English people have paid £10,000 or more for the trip. Not liking football - I wouldn't pay that, but if I had I would certainly be booing. What would you do?
I didn't watch the match but if they truly played badly and were not doing as well as they can then... probably, especially if I'd paid that sort of money to watch..
Maybe the team will get the point for the next match..
England is (or maybe was?) expected to go far in the cup, so at the very least they were expected qualify easily in their group. So far they've had two draws - not a convincing start. When they have players like Rooney and Gerrard not producing, then booing is merited.
I don't believe in "booing" a team or individual player for any reason. As spectators, we expect the players to exemplify sportsmanship and they are penalized when they do not. As a spectator and a player, I expect the spectators to exemplify sportsmanship and respect for what I have done to contribute into the game - whether it is to their satisfaction or not. Simply, it's respect.
See that's the thing - when you expect your team to win and you see them not giving any sort of effort, they deserve to be booed. Their lack of respect for the game earns them some booing.
It's not even that bad of a consequence. Just play your hardest out there and you'll earn the respect.
booing will hurt the players and they will or may be try to show their real power, so booing is good when the team plays bad.
I think the English team were lucky being boooooooooed... They didn't deserve the point and clearly have a hectic party schedule.
Perhaps they will realise that beyond the fans walking out after two dismal displays; the preferred fan action for 3 bad performances is mooning the players!
I can sort of understand booing if someone making calls about what's out or legal (or whatever) makes what fans think is a bad one (but that would booing the umpire/referee/whoever, not the team). Sometimes, maybe, it's not a bad thing if the crowd sees something they think is unfair/wrong to express it.
As far as booing the team/team members goes, though, I think it's really ignorant and tacky for people who sitting on their bottoms and in the stands, doing nothing but watching other people play, to boo. I'm guessing it would be the very rare fan who could get off his rear end, get out there on the field, and play any better than anyone on the team (particularly in some circumstances players find themselves and have to make a quick judgment about what to do).
I don't think people watching should boo players. It's bad form and is intolerant. We have come to expect too much from our professional sports people and sometimes they don't deliver! That's life. Sure the tickets cost a lot but that doesn't excuse rude behavior.
Another pet peeve I have is when spectators boo the other team for good play.
Boooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!
C'mon TE
What Professional players?
90% of kiwi players are amateur. Do you think the All Whites would have played so well if the World hadn't Booooed them and called them No Hopers?
Hey PD - my comment was general rather than specific.
I know that many of the All White's are amateurs.
Do ya think I need to lighten up?!

The Titans, Bills and Jags need QB help. I hope this creates an opportunity to see Tebow play this year.
